@orphcorp This is incredible, yes. Personalized medicine is the future but only one caveat: you have to escape the permanent underclass.

this is excellent >GitLab founder diagnosed with rare cancer (osteosarcoma) >standard care works but cancer comes back later >medical team says there's not much else to do >"It became my own job to keep myself alive. Nobody else was going to do it for me at this point" >starts researching, assembles his own medical team, uses AI for deep research >“I’ll talk to anyone, I’ll go anywhere, and I can be there anytime" to collect information >does as many diagnostic tests as he can find as often as he can (maximal diagnostics) >develops his own therapeutic ladder with repurposed drugs, personalized medicine, etc >Sid’s cancer currently in remission

I hate Enhanced Input so fucking much. Nothing but trouble. Why would you wipe, and reconstruct ALL Triggers and Modifiers when Mapping Contexts change!? Look at the object count in the top right. 50,000 new UObjects in a matter of seconds thanks to a bug introduced in 5.7.

I’ve played 20 hrs of Elden Ring. Do I need to go purchase every From Software game for you to understand that I think they are different games and just because they both have a lock on system and animation based combat that a “Dark Souls” Zelda is not a product me and many others would enjoy?

@divmgl @drunkenfox21 @Dankness01 if all that comes to mind when you hear "dark souls style combat" is difficulty, you probably haven't played a single Dark Souls game lol.

@drunkenfox21 @Dankness01 I see some similarities yes but Dark Souls is significantly harder. I’m not sure I’d enjoy it in a Zelda game. Even Wind Waker Trial of the Gods isn’t extremely difficult.

@drunkenfox21 @Dankness01 Remakes aren’t an issue. A “Dark Souls” Zelda is not Zelda. It’s just Dark Souls with a Zelda skin. Fundamentally incompatible. Happy to be proven wrong. Lots of remakes are great! Resident Evil 2 and 4 come to mind

@divmgl @Dankness01 Uh yeah it's a remake not a remaster. The game shouldn't be one to one just keep the overall story with mechanics and story beats being slightly different.

BREAKING: Anthropic accidentally leaked its next AI model and it just wiped out $14.5 billion from cybersecurity stocks in a single day. Claude Mythos was accidentally stored in a publicly accessible data cache and discovered before Anthropic could announce it. The model showed dramatically higher scores on cybersecurity tests, meaning AI can now detect and respond to threats at a level that traditionally required entire teams of security professionals and expensive enterprise software. Investors immediately started pricing in the question nobody in the industry wants to answer: if an AI model can do this, why does anyone need CrowdStrike? And the market answered immediately: - CrowdStrike is down 5.85%, wiping out $5.5 billion. - Palo Alto Networks is down 6.43%, wiping out $7.5 billion. - Zscaler is down 5.89%, wiping out $1.35 billion. - Tenable is down 9.70%, wiping out $185 million

@TheGingerBill @odyssjii There’s nothing wrong with wanting to use Linux or Unix. There’s also nothing wrong with not wanting to work on developer tooling. This isn’t the 90s. Linux and Unix (MacOS) are ubiquitous.

@odyssjii There is a reason I call a lot of Linux developers sadomasochists for a reason. They don't actually make good tools for themselves, and will actively stick with worse tooling and encourage more people to use them.

Professional Programmers: Stop being cheap and starting paying for your tools. $99 for a Text Editor which you'll spend 7+ hours a day in—how is that even an issue? Same with loads of tools like Superluminal at €289. If you're a developer, you're making that back in days.

@Lanstrash Lame. This is actually one of the reasons I stopped using Unreal. I spent more time figuring out why things weren’t working than actually working on my game :(

Any unreal dev know how to fix the level streaming hitch? Tried merging and used packed level actors on some of my static meshes. It's been happening on all of my levels on load. Seems like the rendering thread is running high.

Two things: Don't profile in PIE. Make a development build of the game. And profile there. And MakeVisibleAfterLoad can still cause an issue IIRC. I would check if the spike goes away when turning it off. If it does, it means something in the level is causing a blocking op when visible.

@divmgl Ah thanks. I'm using blueprints for LoadStreamLevel (by Name). ShouldBlockonLoad = false and MakeVisibleAfterLoad = true.

@Jonathan_Blow @anicic_filip @BOENSAW I think they're useful for cases where you want the contract but with meaningful overrides. Maybe this is naive but sharing a `Unit` class and making my enemies and the player a `Unit` means that they share similar semantics.

@Jonathan_Blow @anicic_filip @BOENSAW I just naturally started doing this in my game as well! I noticed that having a bunch of `MonoBehaviours` everywhere meant that I couldn't reliably control how many things were ticking so I pooled it into managers. I still think inheritance and entities have a place though.

the more experienced I get programming games the more that I realize patterns like inheritance and components don't matter, the only thing that matters is functions and entities which run functions... entities might be the next thing to go

This severely diminishes valve’s value add. VoIP service, matchmaking, secure payment processing, a multitude of other turnkey backend services. EVERY indie dev I have ever spoken with or that has spoken up about the “30%” has stated it is well worth alternatives.

@divmgl @SirDustyDirks I'm not trying to do a "1:1" comparison because Epic Games doesn't provide ANY WAY for us to see the concurrent peak players. And that's one of MANY REASONS I used those 2 pictures. Steam doesn't hide anything and people ACTUALLY use the platform... What about Epic Games...?
