@pstanpolitics Yes, after being crushed (or self-marginalized), they were unable to provide radical alternatives that ultranationists or Islamists could post-1991. Aasim sajaad akhter's politics of common sense is a good primer of this process in Pakistan, imho.

@dnaseemullah Left got violently crushed by the right in some contexts, marginalized itself in others (see: 1980s Philippines). Unable to recover almost universally, though, even after end of Cold War.

one of the most striking things about Asia is how marginal the hard left is. Even the most successful Communist states - China & Vietnam - largely ditched Marxist economics ages ago. Left insurgencies burned out (CPM, CPB, CPT), did a deal (Nepal), or marginal (NPA, Naxals)
