Today, I introduced the Haitian Refugee Immigration Fairness Act of 2026.
Haitian families deserve more than a lifetime of uncertainty. My bill creates a pathway to permanent residency, keeps families together, and provides lasting security.
Haitian families deserve to live without fear of being separated from the country they call home. I will not stop until that becomes a reality.

This ruling is not just unfair, it’s a broken promise. It pulls the rug out from under people who came here legally under TPS after fleeing violence, political persecution, and natural disasters, like the devastating earthquake that struck Venezuela yesterday.
Thousands of Haitians, Venezuelans and other immigrant communities have built lives and contributed to our communities here in Florida while waiting for conditions to improve back home before they return — for many, those conditions remain unsafe.
This decision and other efforts to threaten TPS by politicians like my opponent, Ashley Moody, carry no regard for those circumstances.

Temporary Protected Status is exactly what it says it is: temporary protection for people who fled violence, instability, and danger.
In Florida, our large Haitian community plays a major role in our economy, our communities, and our cultural vibrancy. To send Haitians or Syrians back to the violent conditions they fled would be cruel, dangerous, and deeply wrong.
This kind of brutality, done in our name, is unconscionable and a contradiction of the American way.

Returning them to an unsafe country where their life will be in danger will run against the principle of non-refoulement under international law. A country should not return people to places where they face persecution, torture, or serious harm. Given the ongoing security and humanitarian crises in Haiti and parts of Syria, the least the US could do now is to arrange for another safe country to return them, rather than taking them back to the country that will expose their lives to danger.
