As a liver doctor who has treated patients with hepatitis B for decades, this change to the vaccine schedule is a mistake. The hepatitis B vaccine is safe and effective. The birth dose is a recommendation, NOT a mandate. Before the birth dose was recommended, 20,000 newborns a year were infected with hepatitis B. Now, it’s fewer than 20. Ending the recommendation for newborns makes it more likely the number of cases will begin to increase again. This makes America sicker. Acting CDC Director O’Neill should not sign these new recommendations and instead retain the current, evidence-based approach.

Repeating talking points won’t make them true. We passed the largest rural health fund in decades, $50B that Democrats voted against. Putting resources where they matter most. My plan, which President Trump and Republicans like, puts every dollar in patients’ hands. Why would you want to keep sending billions to insurers to prop up a broken system? 80% of people support a plan like mine.
Senator Patty Murray@PattyMurray

How are rural residents supposed to shop around for emergency care? What do they do when there's only one hospital for miles? Especially when GOP Medicaid cuts are CLOSING those hospitals!

@SenBillCassidy You got played. It is beyond embarrassing that you didn’t see this coming… The downstream effects of this will be massive, and that is completely your fault.

I’m a doctor who has seen people die from vaccine-preventable diseases. What parents need to hear right now is vaccines for measles, polio, hepatitis B and other childhood diseases are safe and effective and will not cause autism. Any statement to the contrary is wrong, irresponsible, and actively makes Americans sicker. We need to understand the real causes of autism. Studies show there’s a genetic predisposition when a mom who’s pregnant is exposed to environmental toxins which can increase a child’s risk of autism. It’s deeply troubling that, according to HHS officials, they appeared to have canceled hundreds of millions in research on autism genetics. Redirecting attention to factors we definitely know DO NOT cause autism denies families the answers they deserve. We had two children die and many more hospitalized nationally from measles this year. Louisiana is experiencing its worst whooping cough outbreak in 35 years. Families are getting sick and people are dying from vaccine-preventable deaths, and that tragedy needs to stop.

@SenBillCassidy Too little, too late, Senator. You knew exactly who this man was when you confirmed him. The deaths that have/will result as a result of RFK’s policies will be forever associated with you.

If someone is paid thousands to take a side on an issue, they shouldn’t also be making sweeping public health decisions about that issue. That’s a conflict of interest. Because you can’t be truly impartial when money has already tied you to one side.

We passed the One, Big, Beautiful Bill to re-prioritize Louisiana families in our tax code. Making the Child Tax Credit permanent is a critical part of that, putting more money back in the pockets of hardworking parents. theadvocate.com/baton_rouge/op…

Empirically, this is not true. Not all mothers have prenatal care. Some get infected between testing in the first trimester and delivery. In some cases, the test is overlooked. If a child is infected at birth, they have a 95% chance of becoming chronically infected UNLESS, they get one dose of hepatitis B vaccine. If they do, they have less than a 5% chance of being chronically infected.
Rand Paul@RandPaul

No medical reason to give newborns Hep B vaccine if mother is not infected. All mothers who deliver in a hospital are tested. This “scientist’s” fetish for vaccines not supported by the data

Hiking rule of thumb: local guides will always underestimate the length of a hike by 50% and the difficulty by 90%. So, if they say a hike is a moderate 2 hours it will be 3 hours and you will want to die

Should we be viewing medicine as more of a job and less of a profession or a “calling”? A question that’s been on my mind a lot recently. Do trainees and physicians get taken advantage of more often by the healthcare system simply bc this is a “profession” we signed up for?
