@eripsa @JTasioulas @ShannonVallor @frossi_t Indeed, I'd add that the democratically decided values also needed to be implemented in tech and corp; and, ethics teams are supposed to be the medium of operationalisation.

@JTasioulas @ShannonVallor @frossi_t I don't think anyone expected corporate ethics teams to be a cure-all, but it's sure nice to have them for coordinating and community organizing. Some of the hope came from seeing tech employees as a front line for rapid organizing, as in Project Maven and other tech walkouts.

It was always naive to invest great hope in in-house “ethics teams” in the tech industry. The ethics of tech is more fundamentally a matter of democratic deliberation. Universities have a key role to play in enhancing its quality. hai.stanford.edu/news/ethics-te…

What a weekend! Yesterday, I had the unique experience of giving a TED talk in Verona in front of over 1200 people ✨ I shared a few takeaways from my philosophical and ethical analysis of conversational and generative AI, while stressing the social and individual implications.

When @geoffreyhinton asserted some ideas of AI threats "aren’t as existentially serious as" his, I can't help but think there is a conflation between "existence" as Existence-as-an-abstract-concept vs Existence-as-live-experience.
