California's jungle primary leads to massive vote splitting between ideologically similar candidates. We could fix this bug with one simple tweak: allow voters to choose all the candidates they approve of. See reply for a link to the fix: a three-word change to the Elections Code

Democrats in California are facing a NIGHTMARE scenario: a Republican governor. Polling shows Chad Bianco and Steve Hilton could end up as the top two candidates. Shutting Democrats out entirely. They are COOKED. Is California going red?

@EmailWmSmith @SusanDReynolds You can file for an extension for filing your return, but if you owe money, it's still due by the tax filing deadline. If you don't pay it by the deadline, then you have to pay even more due to late payment penalties.

Trump is unilaterally redirecting $1.25 billion in taxpayer money for foreign aid to his personally controlled "Board of Peace." This isn't even a normal U.S. government entity. It's a "public international organization" he created by executive order, naming himself as chairman for life. He gets veto power, picks the members, sets the agenda, & controls how the money flows, with no real oversight or auditing built in. Congress is supposed to control spending & appropriations. They're the ones who can (and should) stop this. If Republicans won't even ask questions about funneling billions of taxpayer dollars into a "board" Trump himself owns for life, I'm seriously done voting for them for a while. It's beyond ridiculous at this point.

I’ve been in Congress through divided governments, bitter fights, and historic crises. I’ve never seen anything like the last 24 hours. Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson killed Republican Senate Majority Leader John Thune’s bipartisan deal to fund the TSA, Coast Guard, and FEMA.  It was a deal that had the support of Senate Republicans and Democrats alike, 100-0! Why? Because Johnson places his own political survival and fealty to Trump over all else, including long waits at airports or anything else. We could have passed it in the House easily if only Johnson had allowed the vote to proceed. But instead he blew up the whole thing. Where this goes next is anyone’s guess, but what’s very clear is that Johnson is the worst and most subservient speaker in modern American history.

The Republican-controlled Senate passed a bill to fund TSA without funding ICE, and the Republican-controlled House rejected the measure to fund TSA without funding ICE, so the Republican President just signed an executive order to fund TSA without funding ICE. wsj.com/politics/polic…

one of the media's major failures is not questioning the president seriously. if/when he insults a reporter they sit quietly like frightened children hoping not to be scolded. if he replies to a question by deflecting it, ask the question again; ask follow-up questions. UK journalists are skilled at this. without a courageous press, any authoritarian will walk all over them & hold them in contempt. journalism isn't supposed to be about being "liked"--rather, representing ordinary citizens who do not have access to persons of power.
Aaron Rupar@atrupar

"By making everything just a small daily story instead of telling the broader one about this guy being out of his mind and a danger to all of us, journalists show they’re still worried about coming across as partisan. They don’t want to make themselves part of the story by calling him out. They’re afraid he will direct his deranged behavior toward them. They’d rather write down what he says and assume the American people can figure it out on their own. But obviously some can’t." publicnotice.co/p/mark-jacob-i…

Trump pardoned 77 people this week that stole from Medicare. This flew under the radar. I believe Trump is selling pardons which is enough to send Trump away.

Outsourcing doesn't just cost more—it hollows out the public sector capabilities needed to deliver for people. When governments invest in their own skills, expertise and institutional knowledge, they can sense change, learn and adapt to serve communities better. This is what we're measuring with @IIPP_UCL's Public Sector Capabilities Index: the dynamic capabilities governments need to navigate complexity and deliver transformation. [Links below]

Government must deliver for working people—and every dollar in our budget should work as hard as they do. That’s why I directed every agency to cut waste and help close our budget gap. Here’s some of what we found.

Geez, I wonder who would trade on inside info from within the Trump Administration? And why it's not being investigated? Don't they see that profiting from the office is a bright red line for Donald Trump? And Donald Trump Jr? & Eric Trump? & Jared Kushner? & Howard Lutnick...
Cernovich@Cernovich

Sometimes you have to bite your tongue for the greater good. The pardons are bad enough. War profiteering is my red line. Manipulating the market / insider trading around the lives of American armed forces members is a no-go for me.
