Got a call from another inmate in Maine women's prison today. She's a sex trafficking victim who feels 'traumatized' at being forced to share a room with 6'1", 310-pound male murderer Andrew/Andrea Balcer. Another inmate told her that Balcer stroked her & another woman's hair while they were sleeping. He's also made sexual remarks and pulled up his shirt while bouncing up and down and telling the women to "look at my t*ts". Why won't the office of Maine governor @JanetMillsforME respond to requests for a meeting so that New England Women's Solidarity can advocate for these vulnerable women? @TheMaineWire @PressHerald

@Yukasade @l_huff11707 To be honest, I don't think it would have a big effect. Politicians only care about the opinions of people who can vote them out of office. They don't care what people in other states think.

It was a woman state senator who proposed the law to allow men into women's prisons. At the public hearing on it, only I and one other person (I think a pastor) testified against it. The Maine Women's Lobby, the Maine Rape Sexual Assault Support Centers and the Maine ACLU were all there testifying for it.

@fem_mb @Conviction19c Does Janet have a daughter or sisters? She had a mother at some point. Why do we never see family members disenfranchise themselves from elected officials whom subject women to the horrors of sharing a cell with a male? It is cruel and unusual punishment.

@l_huff11707 Other than RTing, probably not at this point. We need to do things like picketing the prison, talking to state senators, collecting inmate testimonies - things that need local volunteers. But thank you.

When you have two very strong (and socially unpopular) opinions like "men can't become women" and "Israel has the right to exist and Jews aren't evil," sometimes you have to work with people who agree with you on one but not the other. Which, frankly, really stinks.

I’m just going to say this — had Mexican soldiers invaded across the USA’s southern border on 10/7/2023 to rape and murder their way across part of Texas, then paraded the corpses of dead, naked American women around like trophies for the Mexican civilian population to spit on, by 10/7/2024, Mexico as an independent country would have ceased to exist — and no one would have said a word in protest. No one tells non-Jewish nations that they must turn the other cheek after acts of war. Only Israel is expected to meekly bury her dead; only Jews are supposed to constantly mourn, but never to retaliate; to accept butchery and brutality and bombings as the price they must pay for mere existence — and it has far less to do with Palestinian lives than it does with the age-old European conviction that Jews only exist so that the rest of society has someone to abuse.
