First first-author pub is out! We identified common errors that upper elementary students with math difficulty make on computation and word problems and found little overlap of the same error types (like computation) between the two. @sarahpowellphd @LIMEphd

New SF public school plan would - eliminate homework and weekly tests from counting toward semester grade - allow students to take the final exam multiple times - convert all B grades into As, and all Fs into Cs It’s hard to see the difference between this policy and what you’d get if a bunch of 10yos locked the teachers in a closet and rewrote the rules.

You can teach the best vocab lesson, but long-term retention comes from retrieval & spaced practice. I’ve adapted @OchreEducation daily review sheet using cogsci staples (spaced retrieval, interleaving) & also word grouping. Now, wouldn’t it be nice if AI could help plan this?
