Oldest apple tree in the Pacific Northwest dies at age 194 surrounded by its offshoots. Historians say the multi-billion dollar fruit industry in Pacific NW began with this tree. Vancouver, Washington, held a memorial service for the gnarled carcass Sunday nwnewsnetwork.org/post/matriarch…

@maryjofoley My old weak low-end Acer laptop was offered #2004 (May update, etc) once it finished slowly installing yesterday's cumulative update. It is now running the current Windows 10. Installation slow but steady...total time including CU 7 hours. cc @thurrott

@maryjofoley FYI my old weak Acer laptop was updated this morning with the new Edge. And the Windows Update pane in Settings tells me that Win 10 version 2004 is "on its way" but isn't yet ready" for my device.

At least a chance of showers for 4 of the next 5 days, with #July4th looking to be partly cloudy and dry. Highs will mainly be in the 60s to mid 70s. #wawx

@Mintmobile MintMobile is working very well for me in an area with spotty coverage from AT&T and Verizon. (Obviously AT&T not the active carrier in its bad spots.)

#40YearsAgo at #MountStHelens: This morning on May 18, 1980, the @wastatepatrol district office in Kelso sends out this telex to Gov. Ray describing the conditions at the erupting volcano, incl. heavy ash fall, flash floods, electrical storms, and heavy earthquakes. #MSH40

@NWSSeattle Loved Feynman's too-infrequent appearances in Caltech's Friday Evening Lectures late 40s and into 50s. "...indestructible blocks...". "...INDESTRUCTIBLE BLOCKS...".

Nature uses only the longest threads to weave her patterns, so that each small piece of her fabric reveals the organization of the entire tapestry. — Richard P. Feynman Mr. Feynman, the legendary physicist, was born on this date in 1918. GOES-W view of water vapor today.

Surprise...my iPhone SE escaped from the UPS Shanghai empire only to stop for 1 3/4 hours (between arrival and departure scans) in Incheon, Korea. And UPS is no longer projecting delivery date. Fuel stop??? Crew? Trouble? Your Toronto package? @reneritchie

Fascinating watching my UPS package wander around the local area with the follow service. It's also a really bad use of my time.

@joshfarley When I was growing up in the late 40s and 50s, the pump price of gas at the Shell and Chevron stations at the nearby intersection was $0.27 regular and $0.29 "Ethel". I don't remember the crude price then.

this is extraordinary. The world normally consumes some 90+ million barrels of oil each day. Not so during the pandemic.

@reneritchie I've scanned a few of the replies, so this may be covered. With phones becoming ever more central to life, and the current situation of not being able to pop into an Apple store/Best Buy/mall kiosk for an emergency replacement, backup makes sense, sort of.

@NWSSeattle These Tsunami alerts can be quite educational, although I'm likely to forget where the Bonin Islands are fairly soon, and look them up again for the next reported quake.

For the first time I managed to score a bottle (as in limit 1) of (Desert Essence) hand sanitizer. Thanks, QFC, for putting them out in a shopping cart where they would be hard to miss entering the store.

I’d feel a bit more sympathy for women named “Karen” but my name is, somehow, both a synonym for a toilet and a prostitute’s client. So I think you Karens will be just fine.
