@Aodh_MagUidhir @RafHM Reading a lot of interesting stuff,I’m left with the impression religion land grabs and empires have been seriously understated in the history presented to us with a focus on the quirks or personalities.I don’t think he ever came back or once maybe once he had the loot/title?

@RafHM @larson07 You must have forgotten that James was brought up in London. His wishes for union were dashed, when his Scottish ministers reminded him that his monarchy was a strictly legally limited monarchy in Scotland, and that the English Crown had no sovereign rights at all, in Scotland.

Today (24 March) is the anniv. of the Union of the Scottish & English Crowns in 1603, when James VI of Scotland also became King James I of England (France and Ireland) Never forget: Scotland wasn't colonised by England (as the SNP claim) It was a Scottish king who united the Crowns in 1603 and it was Scotland that first called for a union with England (1690s), resulting in the Act of Union in 1707, which created Great Britain and a single parliament. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

@RafHM @Aodh_MagUidhir Thanks. It’s interesting because Scotland had a thriving trade with the lowlands. Except the ‘taxes’ didn’t always go to the Dukes etc plus given the time it helped to shore up their religion. I think that’s where a lot of us get irritated. Ordinary ppl of Scotland had no say

@RafHM @Aodh_MagUidhir Can I just ask where is it written that Scotland was the first to call for it?is there a doc ? That seems to leave out an awful lot of context like the role of religion, power, threats and demands

I simply said Scotland was the first to call for union (1689 & 1690s). That is factually correct. I said nothing about the later push for union and the politics of the 1700s. You read one thing and over-excitedly assumed I meant something else. The Union of the Crowns refers to the 2 separate crowns uniting under one person, whilst remaining separate. All of these Scottish nationalist patriots seem so ignorant of their own history.

@JohnMcS92873401 @ForScotlandSake You defend it all you like but the gas and electricity prices linked doesn’t work, the outdated and only now grid doesn’t work and the ‘independent regulator doesn’t work . Suppose we can always look at OFWAT and OFCOM as examples - oh wait …

@JohnMcS92873401 @ForScotlandSake Yes under a pound /Euro per kw. They also have system that function .OFGEMs role ‘are supposed to regulating gas and electricity companies’ and wait for the best bit ‘fair treatment of customers and promote competition ‘ . Like the banks and ‘their competition’ it’s all hot air

Scotland’s high energy bills aren’t caused by “Westminster control”. They’re driven by global wholesale prices, private ownership of generation, and the cost of transmitting power across a UK‑wide grid. Geography doesn’t set bills; international markets do. 1/3
John Swinney@JohnSwinney

With independence, we can lower your energy bills, rejoin the EU and build a fairer society. That future is ours to win. On May 7, vote for it - make it #BothVotesSNP.

@AlanDuncan1971 Ross Greer and the Greens were at the forefront of saving Loch Lomond . You raise a point tho’ when was the last time the media raised leaks at Faslane, the replacement for the closure of Grangemouth,Mossmorran , bds etc so we could hear them ?

@JohnMcS92873401 @ForScotlandSake The biggest change that could be made re energy is to decouple gas from electricity (that’s politicians jobs) OFGEM just send out public appeasing statements to change nothing

@JohnMcS92873401 @ForScotlandSake What bit you not getting John ? Mcquarry are an asset management group they don’t give a toss where you live - it’s all about the money money money

@larson07 @ForScotlandSake Gas generation irrelevant to standing charges. The same issue would apply in a Scottish grid. The cost to support an isolated, remote customer is higher than me in a Glasgow tenement. Why should I subsidise?

@JohnMcS92873401 @ForScotlandSake I’ll ask again why when it’s a U.K. system? I’ll tell you why cos while they couldn’t build infrastructure (might affect house prices and upset the locals) they could still sell off the national grid to McQuarry so you’re not subsidising anyone as they’re an asset management co.

@JohnMcS92873401 @ForScotlandSake Yes and they import gas to generate electricity . The current system ties electricity and gas prices so why should we pay more for a lack of infrastructure due to London lack of foresight ?

@JohnMcS92873401 @ForScotlandSake I have answered it.The priority is what’s perceived as ‘important areas’ ie London, large instillations. The politicians for decades unable to envision and address change required and a dysfunctional system of charges

@larson07 @ForScotlandSake So you can't answer. By all means live in an attractive part of the country, well away from large population centres, just don't expect the rest of us to subsidise it.

In the space of one month a KC in charge of the QEUH inquiry, Fred Macintish, and David Farries, assistant chief officer (fire brigade) have unequivocally proven that Anas Sarwar lied in the Scottish Parliament. Why no calls for him to resign? Why no media coverage?

@JohnMcS92873401 @ForScotlandSake Whatever your views on him, Alex Salmond drove the renewables while it would appear too many MPs were oblivious too distant and now there’s a rush for slogans like national energy is national security bollocks

@JohnMcS92873401 @ForScotlandSake Because it’s a U.K. Grid and if the U.K. Govt (of any hue) had taken energy seriously they would have/should have started the upgrade to it decades ago. Why do think there’s so many issues with ppl off grid waiting to join ? Because it doesn’t affect London
