Political observers across the country should pay attention to this to understand Assam’s unique electoral geography & think about BJP’s strategies: here is an NDA ally giving half of its tickets for a state election to Muslim candidates (in 2021, only 8 out of 29 AGP candidates were Muslim). Many AGP/BJP supporters are unhappy, of course. But because most of these are Muslim-majority constituencies (which have anyway reduced in number due to delimitation), NDA can dilute both the AIUDF and INC votes by fielding its own Muslim candidates in them. Some of them, like Karimuddin Barbhuiya (who recently switched from AIUDF), would likely even win. But moot question: is this meaningful Muslim representation? Something to think about.

Shoring up hard-evidence to conclusively prove wrong-doing is what journalism was meant to be. Not, shooting accusations and counter-accusations. On the recent arrest of 7 foreign nationals: A much more informed piece (as much as a civilian can perhaps be of the happenings on India's Northeastern borders, and in Mizoram, Manipur and Nagaland). I don't agree entirely with the national security implications. But much more valuably, it shows the matrix of statecraft India uses to also pit one ethnic group's insurgency against the other within India while navigating those across the border and their inter-relationships. Creates the kind of conflicts where ethnic identities get blamed more often rather than the state for its role. Aside: The govt made a spectacle of the arrest. That's intentful to serve a purpose it has in mind to try achieve.
