Hello! As the Indian summer approaches and the heat starts kicking in, here's my annual reminder with a list ideas to help make this summer more tolerable for everyone. 1. Offer water to all delivery agents/ people who come to your door. 2. Keep water in the fridge even if you don't drink cold water, you can always give people a choice. 3. Put out bowls of water outside your house and/or on your balcony/terrace. Crows, squirrels, cows, dogs, cats and other animals need clean water to drink too. 4. CHECK UNDER YOUR CAR EVERY TIME YOU TAKE IT OUT. Dogs take respite from the heat by hiding under cars. Be mindful. 5. Pull out old scarves/hats/caps you aren't using and give them to security guards and construction workers. 6. If you can, make buttermilk at home and offer everyone outside, every day - security, domestic help, delivery agents, corporation workers. 7. Carry extra cold water/buttermilk if you travel by auto/bus and share with driver/conductor 8. If you can, buy cheap hand fans and hand them out to security guards, roadside vendors etc. 9. If you can, place a source of drinking water (an earthen pot) near your building gate so thirsty people can drink without having to buy. 10. Be kind, the heat makes everyone irritable. If you see an opportunity to help, please use any privilege you have and help them.
