Valuable discussion “strategic choices for an uncertain #energy future” hosted by @NRGInstitute — critical: aligning what #MNCs are investing in with a State’s political goals; national oil companies are not necessarily operators (Valerie Marcel & Francisco Monaldi).

Please join us tomorrow for a rich discussion on National Oil Company transformations, with a fantastic group of speakers!

Some governments are planning a transition away from oil. Others are doubling down. Meanwhile, investment is shifting, prices are volatile, demand is uncertain. For NOCs, this is a defining moment. The decisions made now will shape outcomes for decades. 👉 resourcegovernance.org/articles/pathw…

@AndreaFurnaro Piece is here: resourcegovernance.org/publications/n…. We draw on examples from Colombia to Thailand & everywhere in between to lay out factors to consider in evolving business strategies, defining strategic focus and assessing risk appetite - of the NOC and the broader economy.

New report out today - led by @AndreaFurnaro w/ many others - on how Nat'l Oil Co's build transformation agendas. Important step for NOCs and their govts - not to clutch onto the past or focus on what NOT to do, but build systematic approach to assessing new opportunities 1/

At #COP30, voices from the Amazon and beyond are calling for a transition shaped by their realities. NRGI's Juliana Peña Niño reflects on how these calls echo our narratives work in Colombia and why a just transition must start with listening. 🎥 Watch her COP30 reflections

AGN AND AFRICA CLIMATE FOUNDATION HIGHLIGHT EQUITABLE CLIMATE FINANCE AT CLIMATE SUMMIT At the Second Africa Climate Summit (ACS2) held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 8-10 September, the African Group of Negotiators on Climate Change (AGN) and the Africa Climate Foundation highlighted the importance of not losing focus on climate finance During a mandated event Climate Finance Demands ahead of COP30, held at the summit, speakers called for unity and clarity on the delivery of climate finance. Key points included; · The need for climate finance conversations to be grounded in science—Africa contributes less than 4% of global emissions but suffers worst impacts of climate change. Discussions therefore revolved on the importance of equity and justice; · The importance of climate finance to be predictable, fair and equitable. Speakers voiced the long-standing view that developed countries must meet the agreed full cost in accordance with common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities –CBDRC principle, calling for action that ensures strong domestic systems in order to avoid irreversible losses from climate change impacts. Ahead of COP30 in Belem, “Africa expects progress and concretization of the US$1.3 trillion in the context of the roadmap,” said Dr. Richard Muyungi, Chair of the AGN. “Half of this amount must be for adaptation. Africa expects reduction complex access procedures, reforms of the international financial architecture. Africa expects real decisions that target poverty reduction and enhances attainment of sustainable development goals. This means getting Africa out of poverty traps and reduced debt burdens. Climate finance must be grant based and not debt driven. It is about justice and compensation,” Dr. Muyungi demanded. And in their summit declaration, African leaders overwhelmingly agreed to mobilise climate finance for adaptation to cut losses as some African nations are losing between 2-5% of their GDP to climate extremes, while climate extremes are forcing some countries to allocate up to 9% of their national budgets to disaster response. “We emphasize that adaptation to climate change and disasters is Africa’s foremost priority. Thus, adaptation to climate change and disasters, access to clean water and sanitation, food and nutrition resilience, climate resilient cities and infrastructure, climate-resilient health systems and access to reliable energy, are among Africa’s priorities,” reads part of the summit declaration that leaders adopted @_AfricanUnion @ACS2ET @UNEP_Africa @RoseMwebaza #climatefinance
