Quoting this not because he's wrong or we're right, but to further explain our decision so we can just quote-tweet this thread when the topic inevitably comes up again.
We've gone back and forth for three years on whether production lost should be a key metric, and we've decided the value it captures isn't impactful enough to justify it.
Why?
The AVERAGE D1 team lost 52% of their pitching and 51% of their ABs from '25 to '26. The SEC was 62% and 55%. (ACC 55/57, Big 12 55/57, Big Ten 55/54.)
There's real value in retention, like Texas or Auburn. They've got a ton coming back; they don't need as much in the portal/HS. But effectively turning over your roster is what every team has to do every year.
To put it simply: we don't care if you lose 20. Do you bring in or keep the 15-20 you need to succeed in value? It makes life hard on coaches, who are doing nothing but recruiting 24/7... but that's just the way of the game right now.

if you also waste time in extra time, refs can add those minutes and make the game played even longer.
