My suggestion that UAE has run into financial problems as a result of the Hormuz closure, and that its decision to quit OPEC is connected to this, is finding corroboration, with El Pais now reporting that the other Gulf States are experiencing similar difficulties and are also turning to the US for help. Given that these are high spend economies, dependent on big export earnings, which have now stopped, I don't see why any of this should be surprising. In the short term this has made all the Gulf States more dependent on the US, to whom they are having to turn to for help. Beneath the surface there is bound to be great anger. It is not however as if the Gulf States have any choice. The structure of their economies in a situation like this automatically throws them back into dependence on the US. This makes me sad. I don’t know why people can’t leave the Jews alone to live their separate lives on this planet the way so many groups do.
