@lavabisme deleting my original reply because i'm realizing at this second that i'm still a bit more bitter and envious than i realized, i'm definitely not completely over this shit yet 😂

i also personally felt somewhat embittered that "careerism" didnt really occur to me until 27 and i spent a lot of time when i was younger dealing with stupid things rather than grinding mathematics. but i detest the idea that if i dont claw it back i will be bitter unto death like ok its not that deep that i quit math olympiad in high school. a lot of other good things happened

i finished reading @davidbessis' Mathematica this weekend and it was incredible. it was beautiful, and amazing, and was a frame of mathematics i had never ever seen before. mans called math 'the science of imagination' and that completely rearranged something in me

I’m trying to square 3 things: 1. Anthropic uses AI now to code everything 2. Anthropic employees thinks AI is powerful enough to kill us all very soon 3. Basic functionalities in their iOS app and website are buggy as shit, below average startup app quality

What is the best way to learn about pedagogy? Any good advice for books, speakers, ways of looking that you found for teaching?

@DavidSB4_ Idk how to explain it but DB at it’s best gives this “feeling” too. It really is an actual part of creating a great manga/anime that a lot can’t replicate

6 months into my math academy journey now and he's right and a lot of this week since getting my first taste of integrals and derivatives i've been sitting with what it feels like to really upskill. to actually, truly learn something in your bones. it's a paradigm shift.
Justin Skycak@justinskycak

"Following along" is not the same as learning. Watching a video or reading a solution gives you the illusion of competence. Learning only happens when you are the one holding the pencil, struggling to retrieve the information from your own memory.

Observing someone that is incredible at their craft or even their output is one of the most high value things you can expose yourself to. Why? Because it is so much easier to emulate what you know. A few weeks ago, friends showed me the what a creative director contributed to their project. They produced swatches of ideas, textures, iconography, vibes. And in seeing just that output, it informed a new way for me to approach creative ideation work.
