@Frencheconomics I do try to keep up but can only react to your regular and generally excellent posts on here. As a rule and this may be my bias, you will always fall back on brexit as the main reason for our difficulties. Right now, Brexit is least of our issues but the first one you mention 🤔

My thoughts on why the BoE is seen as having the most hawkish reaction function of the major global central banks. Yes, there is a bit of Rayner, and the risk of a costly energy bailout framing expectations, but it is largely the result of years of supply-side rationing. Lord Walker’s comments are in that vein. It is time the BoE (both Governor, and the externals) delivered some home truths: thetimes.com/business/econo…

@seledka_vodka They all lie! Labour said they would reduce energy bills by £300 instead they went up by £400. My Labour council put council tax by nearly 6%. Even today Starmer said he reduced inflation to 3% but it was 2% when they were elected. Not sure what your point is.

@Cricket_TS @chrismillard18 @TheBarmyArmy Not part of Barmy Army but went to Australia for 2 test matches motivated by Stokes and Mcullum. Results not great but what a trip. Loved it. So many great memories. Even enjoyed most of the cricket. Thanks Ben and Bren.

@John_Stepek Come on John, everyone knows this all about Brexit and had we stayed in the EU, growth would be out of the park.

Americans often talk about the impact that the great Depression had on their grandparents' financial psychology (UK's experience of the 1930s was somewhat different). I wonder what the 2008-era impact has been/will be on this cohort. Financial nihilism/YOLO?
Owen Winter@OwenWntr

Part of the issue is a lack of growth. A recent study showed cohorts who experience more GDP growth in their lifetimes are more likely to trust the government and have positive perceptions of their living standards. academic.oup.com/qje/advance-ar… In Britain, such voters are dying out

@Finumus1 Brits clearly knew Brexit was irrelevant to trajectory which was clearly accelerating as part of the EU.

@Spangledband @This_Feeling Really enjoyed that! Stepped back from overpriced arena gigs to rediscover the fun of grassroot bands trying to breakthrough. Great Roses cover BTW.

🐝 MANCHESTER THAT WAS IMMENSE 🐝 From being a small up and coming band playing to pubs of 20/30 people, to tearing the roof off the Ritz with over a thousand Spangled fans belting every work back at us and with no major label backing… proof that guitar music is well and truly alive. This city is forged from the gold dust of the generations before us, it still flickers n shimmers in every beautiful way, and last night was an echo of inspiration they have left behind. That was probably the best night of our life’s. Thankyou Manchester, we belong to you always ❤️ 📸 @OwenPetersPhoto

"Its astonishing" @siennamarla on the result. I disagree with her analysis of the PLP though. Labour MPs are not broadly soft left. They were carefully selected by the Lab right because they're supine & loyal, & as such they lack the ability to rebuild Lab even if they wanted to

@MarketBlondes @robfordmancs Which is why, the G&D result was very good for Reform. Labour now in no man's land. Surely much easier for Right to unite behind Reform than Left to unite behind Labour or Greens. Doesn't appear to be centre ground any more which should also be a worry.

Another Labour source describes today as an "obituary for McSweeneyism". Many on the soft left of the party want today to mark a decisive break with the strategy he championed

I’ve lost my car keys but the police don’t accept such items if they are handed in. All the bloody tax I pay. I rarely use public services and when I want to I can’t. Public monopoly wouldn’t survive in the private sector. Utter disgrace. @LancsPolice

@PolitlcsUK How does increasing maternity pay improve standards? Sounds like a payoff to the Unions again. If it's about making the job more attractive, the issue with Schools , if anything, is the under recruitment of male teachers and lack of male role models.

🚨 NEW: The Government has outlined reforms to schools: - Introduce a tiered system for disadvantage funding based on household income so schools with the poorest pupils receive more money - Increase maternity pay for teachers and support staff - Offer up to £15,000 to new headteachers who take jobs in hard-to-staff areas - Overhaul the SEND system to allow earlier support and 60,000 new places - Create standard "School Profiles" to show information on attendance and results to parents - Set national minimum standards for how schools communicate and engage with parents
