Should this attractive building make it out of the ground, it would not only complete a scruffy corner at Masshouse, but it would also face Curzon Street HS2. Full approval has been granted today for 10 homes, a lobby, lounge, and two street-facing commercial units. #Birmingham

We’ve hit rock bottom here guys, unfortunately I can’t see Colmore Row ever getting back to its pristine state, not even 2 years, hundreds of thousands pounds was spent to repave and we now have THREE separate sections of paving stones replaced with tarmac. @BhamColmore

@BenjaminOCall @oomfitos Keeping cities contained seems fine to me, but West Yorkshire, greater Manchester, West Midlands are all functioning like single metro areas. I don’t see how strips of fields between Leeds and Bradford is very helpful

@OverHeatVD_ i may have possibly typed the sq miles by accident, but even then point still stands of it being 5x and 2x as dense

@notbot110101 beyond 8 stories is regressive to density, since the amenities needed for a modern city to function take up a larger and larger space. paris was the example specifically because it is almost entirely medium density.

@BenjaminOCall Up, but not too far. Even if we weren’t living in a country where you absolutely could expect another Grenfell, tower blocks suck But we should have a lot more 5-6 story stuff rather than endless 2 story terraces

anti greenbelters please see marchetti’s constant. if people are being forced to commute from further out that’s a sign development within the city is too highly regulated, not that we need to expand the area of the city. dense and commutable. low-density is detrimental.

@BenjaminOCall My basic view is the triple lock is unstainible and unfair on working age taxpayers we now have a generation wealthy compared to all previous generations who are taking out more then they pay in not sustainable regardless of public opinion

@mcpoole84 to get progress you have to ignore the voices inside you saying “how will we fund this?” and just invest public money in private growth

@BenjaminOCall Ok but to get progress you would need to do things like end the triple lock rejoin the single market and really slash red tape
