This is why I love Opepen. @jackbutcher doesn’t do what he thinks other people might like or want. He expresses his artistic vision without compromise. The limits, trade offs and risks he takes make this collection special.
jack@jackbutcher

@opepenedition @visualizevalue I should clarify that I am fully aware that the "VV" set above probably resonates faster (aesthetically) with the majority of people than where we ended up, but I will explain why the direction we chose feels like a stronger long term contribution to the collection

@jackbutcher To be honest: what I still don’t get is the whole voting and cummunity art part. It used to be sets released by you, now it’s a mix, some of it from artists of the community? But they first need to be approved by some voting? Then what? Is it a set? Optin as normal? confusing.

@jackbutcher Really impressed you noticed something needed to change. It’s easy to get caught up in using something daily and not noticing its shortcomings. I am an opepen holder and followed you for a while, but even I, after a year of distance to the space can’t figure it out. 1/2

opepen site has become a bit like snapchat / impossible to use zoomer ui with many obscure patterns and buried actions good in some respects (if you know you know etc) but seems to be consensus that it needs a drastic rework will do it in public below

We have been reverse engineering the XZ Utils backdoor and are sharing some initial findings: we've identified multiple hooking options to adapt to different environments, and a hardcoded fake public key that can appear in verbose SSH logs depending on attacker-controlled flags.

@jackbutcher Is there a way to subscribe to get updated on new set drops? Maybe add a newsletter just for drops? I have the bell here active but the set drops sometimes get buried under all your other posts

My friend @PascalPixel is an indie dev working on a new browser called 🐴 H O R S E browser.horse It replaces regular tabs with something called 🐾 Trails which follow you around while you browse It's a bit like Arc but without $18M VC pumping and more intuitive to use, simple and built by an indie dev He's given me 10 lifetime license keys I can give away, if you want one reply with your fav horse GIF

Do you guys think we should have waterparks on Mars? On one hand...water is scarce and probably shouldn't be wasted on recreational activities. On the other hand...low gravity means you can build some super sick slides.

@svpino Still struggling to find a use for AI while coding. Do you have some good examples?

I'm considering dropping Visual Studio Code as my code editor. I never thought this was going to happen, but here we are. I'm trying Cursor, an AI-first code editor. Artificial Intelligence is not a feature for them. It's the whole thing! If you like Visual Studio Code, you'll feel at home with Cursor, except AI is everywhere. I'd recommend you check them out. This is not a sponsored post.

@jalil_eth One sad thing about revealing only 80 per set: it’s hard to get in. Hoping for the next set 🤞 Congrats to all reveal winners!

@levelsio nice. Btw, why do you still do all the other php dev yourself. Most founders would delegated this already at your MRR... just curious about your thinking on this

@fau1in @JoePompliano It’s 100k not 1M. So 500 x 200$ Tickets per Seat. Seems reasonable. Also people spend money on overpriced food, drinks, merch and other stuff while inside.

@JoePompliano I can’t fathom how they’ll make that $ back. You’re talking about selling $1,000 tickets to 1,000 events before they break even, not including expenses from maintenance. Or $100 for 10,000 events, 28 years worth.

The sphere in Las Vegas cost $2.3 billion to build — or about $100k per seat. They already have concerts and other events lined up, but it feels like they could make a decent amount on external advertising too. It’s a giant billboard (that goes viral).
