x.com/theideareview/… Interesting point of view from the Burnham programme
The Burnham Programme@theideareview

@Crowberrygully1 @pickledpuffin @mcdermottkc_ @AndyBurnhamGM He will work with the manifesto. Use that as your guide. If he wants to depart from it substantially, there'll be an election and new manifesto. May didnt fight a leadership election because Leadsom dropped out. same thing happening here

Think Burnham’s foreign secretary pick is going matter more than usual. Part of getting Labour rehearing means convincing public he’s more focused on domestic than international in contrast to Starmer. But big international issues that dominated Starmer’s time don’t go away.

@LukeTryl Could stick David Milliband in the Lords and then appoint him.

@theideareview @pickledpuffin @mcdermottkc_ @AndyBurnhamGM Is that you Andy? It maybe within the constitution, the fact is he has been foisted upon us. The Tories at least had a competition. There is justified concern, little is known about his policies & has been frequent U turns. People and LPM care about having a choice.

The problem with the seemingly inevitable coronation of @AndyBurnhamGM is not that he is unpopular or incompetent .. indeed the evidence is that he is both competent and popular ..and very personable. It is (and will remain) that it appears to many that he has been foisted upon us. The circumstances are very different to those in which Alec Douglas-Home became PM …but the Tory party of the early 1960’s would have been proud of this coronation. One of the features of a democracy is that those who are governed get to choose. In this process there appears to be no choice … for the PLP, for the Labour Party Members or the Country. Yes …he is now a member of the H of C and yes in mid term the question is whether he can command a majority in the H of C … but many of us are asking …. Where was the choice ? Where was the selection ? However well he does … and we should hope he does well … that will never go away. One is left thinking that maybe the concerns of many MPs were focussed on 2029 rather than 2026.

@mikebirdy @calculus52 I’ve been a Labour supporter for 40+ years and still supported when I wasn’t keen on the leader. However, Labour was built on trust, fairness, democracy, supporting each other - none of that has been on display. I’m now politically homeless

What is the point of being a member of the labour party anymore? They clearly don't want to involve us so I must assume it's for money and the grunt work of getting them elected. Even the Tories didn't bypass the membership. Says it all.

I met James Purnell at a charity conference about 20 years ago when he was a minister. He was extraordinarily arrogant, rude and dismissive. I presume those are prerequisites for the job.

@theideareview @BethRigby @darrenpjones I am being ..which is why I will not support him just because he is about to become the next PM. I‘ve some very serious doubts about his abilities to carry this off..particularly on the world stage where he has no experience. Apart from buses “Hope” & “Change” what is he about?

EXCLUSIVE: @darrenpjones tells me he won’t challenge Burnham getting reassurances over his economic policy, but says over 100 MPs unhappy & he did have numbers. Says he was also angry on a "personal level" over Starmer’s forced exit & “felt a bit disappointed” in way PM treated
Sky News@SkyNews

Chief secretary to the prime minister Darren Jones has said he will not run to become the leader of the Labour Party, raising the chances of a coronation for Andy Burnham. He spoke to Sky's @BethRigby trib.al/29sfWHy

@mcdermottkc_ @theideareview @AndyBurnhamGM Agree 100%. Much criticism was directed at the Tories for changing leaders without consulting voters - This isn't democratic, Starmer was 2 yrs in, had achieved a lot & I wanted to see the end plan. We'll never know and I won't vote Labour next time.

Burnham is about to be handed the crown without members getting a say. He contributed nothing to re-building the party & nothing towards the current majority. With enough Labour MPs behaving no differently to the Tories they condemned & replaced. My membership is now resigned

@barry_halverson pretty simple, either Burnham breaks the self inflicted labour doom loop, or farage is in sooner than you think

@barry_halverson Mine will be the same, soon. Am biding my time just to be doubly sure that my vote can't be used, then I'm done with the backstabbing snakes.
