@AllenNeuroLab @tfburns My read of the Wiki is that CA3 provides the excitatory input that causes CA1 to "ring out" ripples or gamma freq. To say "CA3 provides gamma to CA1" is like saying "The sun provides food for plants"... sure, but not literally... excitatory input gives way to a dynamic process.

Here I review binding mechanisms: (1) synchronous oscillations and (2) firing rate changes due to object-based attention. In the 1990s, we thought that oscillations would do the job but that was wrong – firing rate modulations cause binding. authors.elsevier.com/a/1gspg_KOmxJk…

@russpoldrack @NatureNeuro I don't think this would've happened without Buzsáki's name on the paper. I mean this w/o malice or questioning the merits of the paper; hope the tide is turning for null papers, but the bar for them is still higher -> still pub bias and the possible need for a "reputation boost"

@russpoldrack @NatureNeuro Agreed, though also note that this is coming from the lab of one of the most famous researchers in neuroscience. I'll give journals a bit more credit when they publish solid failure-to-replicate results from anyone that has them.

@ColginLab @FunSyCNRS @theta_monkey Thanks @ColginLab for the heads up, this looks indeed very interesting. Congrats @FunSyCNRS, great to see how you exploited the spectro-temporal richness of hipp gammas. Certainly something that needs to be better characterized in hipp and other structures

New paper from the lab- Think gamma routes information between the MEC and hippocampus? This manuscript revisits the theory, finding that gamma is marginally coherent across regions, brought into transient alignment via a highly coherent theta cell.com/iscience/fullt…

Huge congrats to @Maanasa_Jay and @vienaneuro and team for an amazing study: 1) mPFC-HC transiently syncs at beta (15-30Hz) during memory, 2) intimates with beta bursts in nucleus reuniens of the thalamus, and 3) RE opto generates mPFC-HC beta! Please RT! biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

I'm working on a paper about reproducibility! I want to make sure I highlight existing instances of a LACK of reproducibility in systems neuroscience. Do folks know of any? A systems neuro result that other labs coudln't reproduce? Perhaps for unknown reasons? Thanks!

Not going to make a string of (X/20) clickbait posts. We simply did a comparison of theta, acceleration, and velocity. Velocity still carries the dominant effect on theta frequency. Check it out here: jneurosci.org/content/early/…
