I am so sorry to report that Emmanuelle Tognoli passed away on Saturday 23 April 2022 after briefly battling a rare cancer. She had an uncommon ability to inspire and touch lives. Her loss is mourned by family, friends, and colleagues around the world.

@CuriousMZD @Ferris_vball Nobody around me got any screening for residency, anecdotal reports indicated very imaginative names on CDC cards, so I am not clear how the numerator could be improved from a mere headcount of 1st and 2nd doses delivered.
English

@ETognoli @Ferris_vball You mean people who got vaccinated in Florida are actually from elsewhere but are included in the numerator nevertheless? That would be bad. I thought they should have reliable ways to calculate such important numbers as vaccination rate.
English

@CuriousMZD @Ferris_vball Florida was the 1st state to widely open vaccination, and as a result, it appeared to be an epicenter of Vaccine tourism (newspapers at the time said: from Latin America and other US) -> it is also perhaps the case that our measure of vaccination rate is not as good as we think.

@Mengsen 😂 A word about complexity though. For early stage scientists w/ richest thinking, creativity and background knowledge, taming the wild horse of a high-powered mind is manifold harder

"Please... ask yourself.... what are you willing to sacrifice for the truth....?" @mariaressa at @NobelPrize Ceremony.
In all institutions (and that includes the #InstitutionsOfKnowledge), too many people afraid to face her question.

@bradpwyble @shihonghuang Do you know about this Centennial bulb? I find it's story quite moving.

It is the story of #PlannedObsolescence

@bradpwyble A friend of mine @shihonghuang has worked on Legacy Software, and I gather the problem is orphaned of systematic approach. We fool ourselves with the immortality of our science & techniques, yet, I agree w/ you, we create ever more fleeting material/informational structures.

@YllonaJanine For the animated projection part and its very French origin (nouvelles technologies + arts de l'image), I am also thinking of architectural projection artists like Damien Fontaine, here for an example: youtube.com/watch?v=wsILXh… .

@YllonaJanine Not sure I understand... The French are at the forefront of novel art forms integrating expressive movement, dance, and digital art projection. One could hardly ask for a more exquisite specimen of this genre. Take a peek: youtu.be/dKejDG2dmGw

@MichaelPaulson The work by Anne Tournié and her team is the most moving rendering of Saint Exupéry I've seen, and breathtakingly innovative in its own right. Everyone should run to see it. #PetitPrince #LittlePrince

@ThosVarley Oh yes, i remember this paper very well. Best wishes for your book project. It has a lot of potential to fill a gap in knowledge.
English

@ETognoli I do love catastrophe theory, although I'm imagining slightly more "pop-sci" (or at least, accessible to non-specialists). It would definitely be worth touching on though. This kind of paper might be a good middle ground

If someone were to write a book or long review about how different complex systems "collapse", what specifics would you want to see? The obvious ones are: loss of consciousness following anesthesia, and anthropology around Bronze Age collapse, but what else? #sciencetwitter
English

@ThosVarley The beautiful work from René Thom on catastrophe theory comes to mind, thought I have the impression you aim one level higher; perhaps examples from his book are good leads anyway. I see a copy here (hopefully not in copyright violation): uberty.org/wp-content/upl…
