To secure a bright and healthy future for the next generation, we cannot afford to tear down the very safeguards that keep pollution and energy waste in check. Rolling back the environmental gains that took decades of work is not policy, it is theft. It steals cleaner air, safer water, and a livable world from the children who will inherit what we leave behind.

You've never lost a document? I've had to have my birth certificate replaced two times in my lifetime. First because my parents lost it and second because it got destroyed in a storm. I'm one of the lucky ones. Where do you think homeless people store these documents? You still have to pay for replacements.

Marshall Herskovitz - find me at the blue place
What polls actually show is that people support proof of citizenship until they hear the problems associated with obtaining that proof, including Kansas’ disastrous experience. Then support plummets into the 30’s.
Leader John Thune@LeaderJohnThune

Polls show overwhelming support for proof of citizenship to register and photo ID to vote. The Senate is in session because Americans deserve to know why Democrats oppose these commonsense policies.

Indeed, if they cared about citizen access, the bill would add more polling places to lighten the load on individual stations.

@MHerskovitz I saw a clip of Lisa Murkowski showing how far people in Alaska would have to go to register in person. One scenario was a 20 hour drive, or a $400 plane ride, from their town to a city that has voter registration.

Notice how the "SAVE AMERICA" Act does not even call for Election Day to be a federal holiday. If they truly cared about stopping voter fraud or non-citizen voting, they would be making it easier for citizens to vote, not harder. That would mean treating access and security as partners, not opposites. A serious bill would make Election Day a federal holiday so working people are not forced to choose between a paycheck and the ballot box. It would also include provisions to ensure every citizen can easily obtain the documents needed to vote, including free copies of birth certificates and other supporting records, especially for people living in poverty. If the concern were truly about verifying citizenship, then the solution would be to help eligible citizens clear that hurdle, not make the hurdle harder to reach. We should want more citizens voting, not fewer. Real election integrity means secure standards paired with practical access. When a bill focuses more on barriers than on helping eligible Americans participate, it becomes harder to see it as fraud prevention and easier to recognize it as voter suppression.

Voting Day is not a federal holiday, and mail delays are a real part of life. If a ballot is postmarked by Election Day, it should be counted. That is not some radical idea. That is basic fairness. The right to vote should not be narrowed by whether someone has flexible work hours, easy transportation, immediate access to a polling place, or a perfectly functioning postal system. People work long shifts. People are caregivers. People are disabled. People live in rural areas. People run into delays that are completely outside their control. A functioning democracy accounts for real life instead of punishing people for it. What is especially absurd is that in the 21st century, in a country with the level of technology we have, we still have not seriously expanded secure digital voting options. We carry devices with biometric security, encryption, identity verification, and location capabilities in our pockets every day, yet our voting infrastructure is still treated like modernization itself is somehow unreasonable. That is a failure of political will, not human capability. Instead of making voting easier, more secure, and more accessible, too many leaders seem determined to do the opposite. They keep finding new ways to add friction, raise suspicion, and make participation harder. That should concern everyone regardless of party, because any system that makes legitimate voting harder is a system that is failing the public. A healthy democracy should be focused on maximizing lawful participation, not creating more ways to discard it.

🚨 BREAKING: The Supreme Court appears poised to STRIKE DOWN state laws allowing the mass acceptance of mail-in ballots after election day, following oral arguments — AP It could affect several DOZEN states. THIS IS HUGE! 🔥 Justice Sam Alito delivered a MASTERCLASS in precisely why we have an election DAY, not "week" or "month" "We have LOTS of phrases that involve two words, the last of which, the second of which is DAY. Labor DAY, Memorial DAY, George Washington's birthDAY, Independence DAY, birth DAY, and election DAY!" "And they're all particular DAYS." "So if we start with that, if I have nothing more to look at than the phrase election day, I think this is the DAY in which everything is going to take place, or almost everything."

Let me break this down point by point, because this fearbait only works if people stop thinking. #1 Legal non-citizens exist. That should not be a shocking revelation. Of course many of them need driver's licenses to live and work. #2 If someone has work authorization or is navigating the immigration system legally, they need to be able to drive to work, court, school, and everyday responsibilities like anyone else. #3 Whether non-citizens can vote in local elections is a state and local issue. It varies by jurisdiction and its a state's legal right to allow it. That is completely separate from federal elections. #4 Non-citizens cannot vote in federal elections. Period. So no, this is not proof of some giant fraud conspiracy. It is just another attempt to mash together unrelated facts and sell panic as insight. A driver's license is not a ballot. Local voting rules are not federal voting rules. Immigration status is not evidence of fraud. This kind of rhetoric depends on the audience not knowing the difference.
Eric Daugherty@EricLDaugh

🚨 WOW. Sen. Mike Lee just confirmed the stunning fraud we face if the SAVE America Act fails Right now, 1. All states give drivers licenses to noncitizens 2. 19 states give them to illegal aliens 3. Some states have legalized noncitizens voting in local elections 4. 30 MILLION noncitizens reside in America "This is all headed in one direction. Unless we SAVE America." Nailed it.

That standard feels more important than ever right now. If public servants are supposed to be role models, then empathy, restraint, and respect for the people they serve can’t be optional… they have to be foundational. That includes how leaders show up for communities that have historically been marginalized, including LGBTQ individuals, and whether they approach those realities with understanding or distance. It also means keeping governance grounded in secular principles. Public office is not a vehicle for imposing personal religious beliefs on a diverse population. A government that serves everyone has to make space for different beliefs, and for those who have none, without elevating one worldview above the rest. Leadership in a society like that isn’t just about policy positions. It’s about whether you can represent people whose lives don’t mirror your own without trying to simplify or dismiss them. Maybe the core question we should be asking politicians is this… When you’re faced with people who live differently than you, do you see them as people to represent… or problems to solve? Because that answer tells us far more than any campaign promise.
