I have been familiar with the dmesg command in Linux to view kernel log messages, but today I learned I can do: $ dmesg -H which provides a pager option like less and continues to colorize the output. (-H = human readable output) #linuxtips

Getting my new @Fedora system set up with some time-saving shortcuts such as: alias gno='gnome-open' I did not want to use "go" since I will be installing golang. What is your favorite #bash alias for your Linux system?

@thisDaveJ @fedora Yes, very stable. No issue at all. I am on xfce. Even during homeschooling sharing it with my daughter who made a gnome for herself, all ok.

Installed @Fedora Linux on my home laptop 💻 that previously ran Windows. It's now a dual boot system. I'm running this for 30 days to see if it can become my daily driver. Have you taken the Linux plunge? Any words of wisdom?

@thisDaveJ @fedora Glad you went that route, i keep my windows partition as the smallest (minimum required) one, and i only use it to update the bios (if any..barely once)... Enjoy your new OS, google and don't be afraid to use CLI for everything you can... learning this way is the best.

@thisDaveJ @fedora After 3 months of dual booting with Xubuntu, I quit on Windows. Then moved to Manjaro which is great. Windows is a waste of money and resources (heating up too much, waste of energy for nothing for daily non-IT people like us)

@thisDaveJ @fedora tried it your way dual booting. only way to adapt is to do it full time. install @fedora completely on your laptop and have patience with the learning curve. in the long run you'll be thankful.

@thisDaveJ @fedora You will soon get used to it, and if you know any dos or powershell, you will get along with bash!!

@cgpipeliner @fedora I had not heard of remmina. Looks very cool, but I guess it's even cooler if it works. 😃 Have you tried to RDP to your Windows machine from another Windows machine w/ the standard Windows RDP client (mstsc)? Perhaps you need to enable RDP connections on your Windows firewall?

@thisDaveJ @fedora For typical office work I can't recommend LibreOffice, Evolution and Firefox highly enough. If you need it, MS Teams is also available and works quite well.

@83bytes @fedora Thanks, ThatGuy! I love all of the choices that are available. I have configured Gnome with some keyboard shortcuts such as "Super+M" to minimize all windows since this is part of my muscle memory from Windows. But, you are right...don't expect it to be 1:1 with Windows.
