Was inspired by @PeterJWoodsPhD artistic process modelling and research into noise and experimental music scenes ~ to see if this could map onto other music practices and genres.

Still processing but a really good day yesterday holding a workshop and space for the department staff @GoldsmithsMusic to identify knowledge and learning contexts shaped by digital spaces and experiences within students’ emerging practices.

First day as a visiting lecturer for @FalmouthUni. Teaching 3 seminars on the relationship between platforms, technology and the value of music to final year students.

@thisben Imo, the issue isn’t the algorithm. If you think about it, there will always be some sort of influence wherever you dig your music. Even if you go to your good old record store. The point is, make sure you look up for music from enough sources so you ensure diversity of choice

The benefits of taking breaks from social media and algorithm-crafted feeds is well understood but does anyone expand this to, say, Spotify or other forms of algorithm influenced music consumption? i.e. take a break from listening to playlists or 'personalised' recommendations?

I've bounced off @matdryhurst's thread at a different angle but I think what was being said applies to musicians with both pop and/or alternative ambitions for their music.

I think the most promising aspect of this space for musicians atm is the chance to alter the course that music ownership and distribution is set on. Let us see this as a chance to play with some alternative approaches rather than just repeating historical arrangements. 3/3

On history...Have heard of a few musicians offering % splits on future royalties and revenues generated from songs sold as NFTs. The historical justification for giving away % was that the % went to people who had the financial and/or cultural clout to move the dial for you.. 1/3
