The first car I ever bought was this Ford Fiesta Mk1 - I paid £90 when I was 15 for it w(hen my Mum and Dad were on holiday) from a local garage, who had it in as a part exchange. I didn't make any profit out of it, but through buying it I learnt how to drive, how to service a car, how to change brakes, how to change a clutch, how to change suspension parts, how to paint bodywork with spraycans, how to change a tyre and how to fix windscreen washer jets. All in all, a lot of lessons learnt and I will always remember the plate - BVM 47Y. I sold it for £90 after a couple of years, but I believe they crashed and scrapped it - shame. Who can remember their first car AND the reg??

@ListerLawrence Slippery slope for your mental health if you start to believe nothing truly matters, takes a strong mind to see past this and still find meaning and enjoyment in life, be careful Lawrence

This week I’ve had my planning permission refused, a leak in the upstairs of my house and a puncture that needs a new tyre for a tyre that was already nearly new! Sometimes you have weeks like this, but then a colleague reminded me that we’re only tiny specks in the universe and nothing really matters anyway, which made me feel much better. Keep smiling everyone. 😁

@tim_aggett @AvonandsomerRob EV no problem for long journeys. Used one as a company car between Nottingham and Cornwall. Drive two hours, 20 minutes charge, coffee and emails. Repeat. Easy.

£50 of fuel will get you around 275 miles range in the average family car. To get that range into an EV you're looking at a whole HOUR on a public fast charger, at around the same price or higher (fast UK chargers range from 63 to 93p/kwh) Have you got that much time to spare?

If you could buy back a car you once owned, in new, time-warp condition, which would it be?

@AvonandsomerRob Parts unavailable, crash it and it's a write off. I've seen pics of one where the back axle fell off, all the welds with zero penetration.

Almost every 26 registered car I see on Britain's roads are Chinese BYD, Jaecoo, & Omoda EVs. Are they as cheap & nasty as they look?

My employer is launching an EV salary sacrifice scheme. I've always bought my cars outright, but I'm tempted to sell mine, invest the cash, and use the scheme instead. Anyone done this?

@watch_tsar Definitely not. The Day Date is a men’s watch regardless of whether it’s 36mm (admittedly more of a ladies size now) or 40mm I prefer the grey slate ombré with rose gold 😉 Or the olive green with rose gold.

A £500,000 house in the UK in 2026, with a 10% deposit, at current mortgage rates of around 5%, costs you about £2,630 a month for 25 years. That's roughly £790,000 in total mortgage payments. Add the £50,000 deposit, £15,000 stamp duty, and roughly £150,000 of maintenance, repairs, insurance, and council tax over the 25 years. Total cost to own a £500,000 house: about £1 million. After 25 years, the house might be worth £750,000-£900,000 if UK property continues its long-run trend. You've spent £1m to own an asset worth £800k-ish. The numbers only work if you'd otherwise have spent the equivalent on rent over the same 25 years — which is roughly the case at current UK rental rates. Owning a house in the UK is closer to a forced savings plan with a roof attached than an actual investment.

@GlobalWatchClub what think about the 300 eur Seiko watches, are they considered too poor; found some I like. Not a big watch person and not the phase where I would spend more than 500 EUR on a watch

Watches I don't recommend buying: 1. Fakes 2. Hype pieces you don't care about 3. Fashion Brands 4. The watch that puts you in debt 5. Watches priced way over retail
