Delhi’s winters used to invite us out. Chatais in parks, food from home, long afternoons that stretched into cold evenings. Public space felt shared, generous, alive. Now winter arrives with masks, sealed doors and air purifiers humming indoors. We check AQI before stepping out. We leave early. We don’t linger. This isn’t just about bad air. It’s about how pollution quietly shrinks a city, how parks, cafés and streets still exist, but are no longer meant to be inhabited. Clean air has become curated, indoor, and expensive. @ShashiTharoor Mr Tharoor, Thank you for bringing this up. If Jakarta is sinking in the sea, Delhi is sinking in smog in the winter, melting in heat in summer, submerged in water in monsoon (mostly breaking unwarranted records) and making it practically unliveable- A capital deserves better!

Delhi is officially the most polluted city in the world, 4x Hazardous levels and nearly five times as bad as the second most polluted city, Dhaka. It is unconscionable that our government has been witnessing this nightmare for years and does nothing about it. I have run an Air Quality Round Table for experts and stakeholders, including MPs, since 2015 but gave up last year because nothing seemed to change and no one seemed to care. This city is essentially uninhabitable from November to January inclusive and barely livable the rest of the year. Should it even remain the nation’s capital?
