Our Metros are sinking under the weight of overpopulation, garbage, pollution and misgovernance. A bridge here and a metro there will not change things. If the PM @narendramodi wants Delhi to be a global ranking capital than merely posting an IFS Governor is not enough. PM himself has to call meeting of the stake holders to discuss pollution, garbage, traffic, encroachments, hospitals, schools, railway stations, airports, eateries, monuments and finally the general discipline and civic responsibility. While @LtGovDelhi is well aware of the needs, having served in America for 12 years, how he will do it is a Himalayan task, considering the honble CM @gupta_rekha for whom these may not be vote catching issues. Metros have been failed by all CMs and MLAs. MLAs in metro hardly care for Bombay or say bangalore. They look at their own constituency & why not, and seek to only make money in capital, like others, from urban property. Delhi as a state has also been failed by the legislators who hardly ever raise concerns on capital's issues except for political reasons. On the face of it, as a Delhi ite I am Happy with Delhi budget - good projected rate of growth, healthy tax revenues, manageable inflation & fiscal deficit under control. But is that all? A serious think should be done on having directly elected Mayors in Metros and removing the CM from charge of cities. Mayor would then be totally focused, having full charge and responsibility of various departments.
