@Rule3O3 @PincherMartin8 @BigGulpAmerikan It's comparing apples to oranges. Cox's Hannibal is an interesting aside. He's very good but is there to serve a purpose whereas Hopkins' Hannibal is fundamental to the entire film & requires a bravura performance. I revisit Manhunter more often tho. An astonishing film.

@PincherMartin8 @BigGulpAmerikan Manhunter fans were the just about the only critics Silence had. Mann’s Lecktor cell was perfect - a modern cage for specifically modern kind of killer. And Cox’s Lecktor was perfectly cold and clinical. To go from that to a tongue slurping freak in an Ed Wood movie dungeon…

Not really. Will Graham's home in MANHUNTER was on Florida's Gulf Coast, which in the 1980s was not nearly as popular or trendy as the Atlantic Coast havens like Miami. More relaxed and more blue collar. Yes, the resident/owner of that house was a famous and wealthy artist, but the movie doesn't linger on the house, which in any case is not a mega mansion. I had a hard time even finding good photos of its exterior. Instead, Mann focuses on the colors the beach environment provides.

Mysterious Semblance At The Strand Of Nightmares@BigGulpAmerikan

Typical Michael Mann movie (or similar) from the 80s has a family living in a house that looks like this in the suburbs and is afforded by the father's police detective salary.

The rescue of the second pilot gets so much more interesting when you realize he walked 110 miles in a single day to get to his location from crash sight and other pilot.

The Europeans are not dealing with “a man.” They are dealing with the United States of America. The United States needed the most innocuous kind of cooperation from them. They denied the United States that cooperation. The implied argument is that their obligations within our alliance depend on whether they like the guy we chose as our president. “Sure, we’re allies…if we approve of who you elected.” Nope. We are not going to forget, and we’re not going to forgive. I’m indifferent to their excuses or their rationalizations. The United States of America needed their help and not very much help. They turned us down. That changes everything. And they aren’t going to like how it changes everything.
Gerard Baker@gerardtbaker

The casuistry here is remarkable. This is the simple reality: Like most Americans, most Europeans think this war is a bad idea.Their governments are being asked to take a huge risk by a man who has proved unreliable, volatile and intemperate over and over. Who would do that?

@retrofootballnw @England Beardsley was a brilliant player who no one really talks about now. At his peak, about as good as any creative attacking player from the 80s and 90s.

Peter Beardsley scored this cracking goal for @England vs. Poland in 1990. This was at the start of the Graham Taylor era. I was there as we went on a school trip. We didn't get home until about 4am! #England won 2-0

Loved Emile Heskey, hated it when Houllier moved him out onto the wings, destroyed his confidence. A player that’d be far more appreciated in the modern game.

Those in the know are fully aware how amazing Ronnie Whelan was His injuries were vital Negatives for us not winning the title in 1991 and killed Souness before he ever got started Was never replaced with the same quality until Didi Hamann arrived However 81 to 88 were the prime years
Dicky Sam@Davolaar

It's frequently debated how Ronnie Whelan is probably the most under-rated player to have ever pulled on the Reds shirt..Jamie Carragher is up there with him..definitely the most under appreciated!

Imagine John Barnes with modern sports science & diet. Pitches that weren't cabbage patches & defenders not allowed to kick the shit out of you. Plus not being booed everywhere for the colour of your skin. He'd be unplayable.
Emzel@Emzyl_

Nah, thinking about it again, Carragher ranking John Barnes ahead of Salah as a bigger Liverpool legend is genuinely bonkers, I still can't believe it man. I mean what's the criteria?! In what planet was Barnes a better player than Salah never mind a bigger pool legend??

@Emzyl_ Mo is the greater Liverpool player for his achievements but peak Barnes was better than peak Salah. It was like Barnes had been beamed in from another planet. Unfortunately, he had the Achilles injury which curtailed him but for 4 years, he was the dominant player in the league
