We extend our heartfelt appreciation to our National Chairman H.E. President @KagutaMuseveni for his visionary leadership and guidance that anchored a highly successful NRM Leaders’ Retreat. We commend the Central Executive Committee (CEC) for providing strategic direction, and applaud all newly-elected NRM Members of Parliament, as well as independent leaders who participated, for their commitment, discipline, and active engagement throughout the sessions. Special recognition goes to the NRM Secretariat Executive Leadership under the leadership of the Secretary General, Rt. Hon. @TodwongR Awany for the excellent coordination and organization of the retreat, and to the team at the National Leadership Institute,(NALI) for providing a conducive environment that enabled meaningful dialogue and reflection. We are grateful to the facilitators for their insightful presentations and practical guidance, which enriched the discussions and strengthened our shared understanding of national priorities. Our sincere thanks also go to the support staff whose behind-the-scenes efforts ensured the smooth running of all activities, the media fraternity for amplifying key messages to the public, and the security community for maintaining safety and order throughout the retreat. This retreat has not only strengthened unity and ideological clarity within the movement but also reaffirmed our collective commitment to serving Ugandans with integrity, focus, and patriotism. Last evening, at the ongoing @NRMOnline leaders’ retreat in Kyankwanzi, we had the honour of being hosted by H.E. @KagutaMuseveni for a bull-roasting event. At the event, the President used the occasion to remind us of the core duty of leadership: to stay grounded among the people. He urged us to understand our constituencies–household by household–identify who is participating in the money economy, support them to improve through government programs, and actively guide communities toward practical, wealth-creating activities. On behalf of my colleagues, I expressed our gratitude to the President for his continued leadership and guidance. I also reaffirmed our commitment, as Members of Parliament, to work together as one system in support of national development. The mandate given to us by the people calls for unity of purpose, not division, as we collectively drive Uganda’s socio-economic transformation. As we approach the conclusion of the retreat, I am inspired by the enthusiasm and readiness of my colleagues to take on this responsibility to serve Ugandans.

What makes a Member of Parliament effective? How can we turn laws and budgets into real impact for our people? That was the thrust of my presentation this morning at the ongoing @NRMOnline Leaders’ Retreat at the National Leadership Institute, Kyankwanzi. I told fellow MPs that being effective goes beyond being an active participant on the floor of Parliament in making laws. It also includes overseeing government programs, representing constituents and ensuring proper appropriation of resources. To carry out oversight effectively, I advised them that we need to be on the ground and work with communities to unearth what is not right. I shared an example of how I personally intervened in Mitooma when Parish Development Model funds were being mismanaged. I discovered that forms that should have cost 10,000 UGX were being sold at 30,000 UGX. We discussed issues that were not right in open forums so that everyone could see how they were resolved, which improved public confidence. In Parliament, I told my colleagues that we must master our rules of procedure. Every motion, debate, and point of information matters but only if raised in the right way. Being strategic, following time limits and knowing how to protect members while raising issues ensures that Parliament works effectively. I told my colleagues that Committees are another critical area that they must take seriously. Most parliamentary work happens in committees, and active participation allows members to influence decisions, monitor projects like roads and health centres, and ensure public funds are spent wisely. I encouraged colleague MPs to develop areas of expertise, focus on results and never forget the people we serve. This is how we can ensure that our work is impactful and accountable to the people of Uganda.

We had the great honour of receiving insightful wisdom from H.E. @KagutaMuseveni as he opened the week-long National Resistance Movement Leaders’ Retreat at the National Leadership Institute, Kyankwanzi, this afternoon. The President focused on the ideological foundations of the @NRMOnline and our country’s journey toward prosperity in the past four decades. He underscored the importance of patriotism, Pan-Africanism, socio-economic transformation, and democracy as guiding principles for Uganda’s development. However, Uganda’s development alone is not enough. He emphasised that we must look beyond our borders by promoting regional integration within the East African Community and across the continent to expand markets, strengthen strategic security and create more opportunities for Africans. Throughout the week, we will reflect on the President’s wise advice, as well as that of many other speakers. We will discuss how, as leaders, we can play an effective role in implementing these ideas for a better Uganda, East Africa and Africa.
