As private equity continues to circle Collectibles as an asset class, reports of the sale of Panini have emerged.
Panini produced some of the greatest NBA collectibles, having a memorable exclusive with Kobe Bryant that was a true blessing to the community.

It’s vintage cards.
Here’s their own data (Extrapolated FY 26)
-> 86+ billion cards exist worldwide
-> 56+ billion of them were produced in the last 6 years alone (Over 65% of all cards)
What does Pre-2003 WOTC vintage represent of that 86 billion?
A rounding error.
If serious money starts rotating out of modern into vintage, “flight to quality” begins, compounds, and prices rise violently. The Pokemon Company needs the marginal buyer’s attention to avoid a burst - maybe you’ll see them offering attractive ETB reprints to avoid a decoupling vintage market.

Mind you, these charts and are always lagging badly. This first week of April’s PSA10 eBay sales have been record breaking - vintage is currently parabolic.

I posted literally yesterday that #PaniniBlockchain had 18 sales in last 7 days. Namely 18 crossed 1ETH bench mark. Then last 24 hours, we have 7 new 1ETH+ sales. (7 wonders? As I just saw 2.) The “77” wristband was the hottest one in the league, and he always makes sure to find a kid to give it to. But most important, is Luka’s pregame routine includes signing an autograph for every fan present at the tunnel for his pregame warmup - at home and on the road. It is a special sight.

Today LeBron very first debut on #PaniniBlockchain sold for 1/10 of its true value. Some people chalk it up to market inefficiency or seller not checking (leaving $100k+).
But we hope PBC can record past offers like Heritage and have a valuation system like Alt.
How to value your PBC asset?
- Use comps, change player in the set find comp, using ratio (from other cards).
- Find two cards from sale, one better and one worse to sandwich it.
- Using physical comp with a ratio.
- Understand the card (it could be just another such card in physical but could be first ever or very rare on chain), and check all time sales of that player.
- See market trend and adjust older data.
- Join in PBC discord or make a post on social media and ask.
- If your cards have multiple watchers, relist your card at high enough ask to alert all watchers and be patient, demand is less likely to disappear than not seeing it.
- Search your email to see past offers (often lowball) to have a ball park.
Anything to add?
Having items sell to true value especially big boys are important:
- Not take away another record making visibility
- Make valuation system reasonable especially important in the nascent BC hobby to build
- Seller likely bought in from this experience and contribute more to the ecosystem
The silver lining is that, plenty of grails are with first owners who don’t understand market or item, so it could be considered as an opportunity or a sign of being early to secure items with immense potential or immediate upside.
Never a boring day on PBC. People getting emotional means they care and BC hobby matters.

I'm not here to judge the seller,circumstance may have played on the decision...15k may have impacted his life immensely.Perhaps he didn't want to counter with the fear of losing that opportunity.Maybe 15k and 150k are both equivalent in his perspective of wealth meaning he/she was Uber rich.Like I said not worried about any of that.One thing I know is "chaos" exists,and a reshuffling of the deck of order is good and natural for all ecosystems.Its what happens next which defines the course of things.

Big sale on Panini Blockchain that's garnering a ton of attention over the last 24hrs. on a LeBron digital card.One might see the 15k+ sale and say to themselves "Wow...another big digital sports collectible sale.Things on that platform and in that hobby lane are really gaining traction".But the reality is that specific card was bought for a fraction of its perceived current value.It was acquired on the platform nft.paniniamerica.net with an "offer" to a collector who's been dormant for awhile and must have returned to the site and saw the 15k offer and accepted it.Deal done.The buyer was notified and must have enjoyed the best Easter Bunny airdrop of his life.Some of the OG collectors are feeling some POMO,yes POMO the pain of missing out and that's understandable on a variety of levels.I truly understand how something like this is hard to swallow etc.etc.but there's a silver lining.There is a huge,vast catalog of Panini BC digital cards owned by a host of holders both dormant and very active.There are a ton of diamond in the rough cards both pulled and still in packs hence my post.The opportunity to highlight a sale of this magnitude is enormous highlighting that the grounds are litered...fertile with cards that hold enormous value.A California Gold Rush effect if you will...a reason to immerse yourself at this time and maybe capitalize on a find of this magnitude.This instance can be viewed as a burning,bright beacon of what fortunes lie in waiting for you on PBC.The product is amazing and the future is bright.Come collect on Panini Blockchain the time is right!
