Thierry Henry on the VAR check involving Lionel Messi:
🗣️ “I’ve seen a lot of people saying that should have been a red card, but for me, intent is very important when you analyse these situations properly.”
“When you watch it again, you can clearly see that Lionel Messi is focused on the ball and trying to make a football action, not trying to hurt anyone.”
“Yes, there is contact. Yes, it looks awkward. But not every collision is a red card.”
“That’s exactly why VAR exists — to slow everything down and determine whether there was any malicious intent or serious foul play.”
“The officials looked at it carefully and in the end didn't even believe it was worth a yellow card.”
“People are reacting because it’s Messi. If it was another player, I don't think there would be nearly as much controversy.”
“For me, it was accidental, unfortunate, and nothing more than that.”
“Football is a contact sport, and sometimes incidents look far worse in real time than they actually are.”

Pape Thiaw on facing France national football team today:
🗣️ “Why should we be afraid? Because they're the world champions? Because they have superstar names playing for the biggest clubs in Europe? That means absolutely nothing to me. Football isn't played on social media, on television, or on paper. It's played on the pitch for ninety minutes, and once that whistle blows, reputations don't score goals.
I have complete faith in every single player in my squad. I've watched them work relentlessly, I've seen their hunger, their sacrifice, and their determination. People outside Senegal may underestimate us, but inside our dressing room there is a belief that cannot be bought and cannot be taught.
Everyone is speaking about France winning this match comfortably. Every headline is about their stars, their talent, and how far they can go in the tournament. Very few people are talking about Senegal. That's perfect for us because pressure can be a heavy burden, and all of it is sitting on France's shoulders.
We didn't travel thousands of miles to this World Cup to take photos with famous players or exchange shirts after the game. We came here to compete, to fight, and to prove that Senegal belongs among the best teams in world football.
France have incredible players, nobody is denying that. But football history is full of great teams who walked onto the pitch believing victory was guaranteed and walked off shocked by what happened. If they think this game will be easy, they are already making their first mistake.
What I love most about my players is their mentality. They don't care about names, transfer fees, or Ballon d'Or rankings. They care about winning duels, winning battles, and making their country proud. That mentality makes any team dangerous.
When I look into the eyes of my players, I don't see fear. I don't see nervousness. I see determination. I see men who believe they can write history and create a moment that Senegalese fans will remember forever.
Let me be very clear: we're not stepping onto that pitch hoping France make mistakes. We're stepping onto that pitch believing we can force them to make mistakes. We respect France, but we do not fear them.
And if France expect Senegal to roll over because of their reputation, they are in for a very long night. Because my players are ready for war, and we believe this is our moment to shock the world.”

🚨 Didier Drogba: "This Could Be Africa’s Turn to Win the World Cup"
🗣️I can say the African countries came well prepared for this World Cup. Look at Ivory coast, Morocco and Egypt’s exceptional performances - and some teams haven’t even played yet like Senegal..
The game against Belgium was very balanced. Others expected more from Belgium, but Egypt kept pressing hard and almost took the lead, especially in the final minutes. It was so intense that no one even had time to properly check the potential penalty.
The fantastic saves from their goalkeeper Mostafa Shobair - and even the keeper from Cape Verde Vozinha - truly deserved Man of the Match.
Like I said, the African teams look ready for the big stage. Maybe this is their turn to bring the trophy home.

🚨 ILIMAN NDIAYE NE S’EN CACHE PAS, IL VEUT GAGNER LA COUPE DU MONDE AVEC LE SÉNÉGAL 🇸🇳 !!! 🏆
« Le Sénégal 🇸🇳 attend la Coupe du Monde avec IMPATIENCE car nous avons un objectif clair : DEVENIR CHAMPIONS DU MONDE. ⭐️
Le football africain est en train de franchir un CAP, il atteint un AUTRE NIVEAU. Le Maroc 🇲🇦 a brisé un plafond de verre en 2022 avec son parcours jusqu'en demi-finales. ✅
On l'a ressenti quand on a affronté de grosses nations comme l'Angleterre 🏴 (victoire 3-1 du Sénégal 🇸🇳 en juin 2025), ON REGARDE N'IMPORTE QUI DROIT DANS LES YEUX. 😤
ON VEUT VRAIMENT RAMENER LA COUPE DU MONDE EN AFRIQUE. » 🌍

Morocco 🇲🇦 Football Federation president Fouzi Lekjaa said the country will stop bidding to host CAF competitions.
Instead, Morocco will focus its resources on major global events, including the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup and the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
“Morocco will no longer submit its candidacy to host an African competition, whatever it may be. If other countries wish to organise them, they are free to do so.”
