Many of you might not know, but apart from an avid ‘doodler’ and folklore wanderer, I am a professional chef. Last week, I landed the position which might finally catapult my career into serious territory. And I am exhaled to have been welcomed as Sous Chef in a Spanish (Basque Cuisine) Restaurant in London. I am 43 years old, and after a very dark few years, I’m glad I didn't give up and life is starting to feel hopeful again. [I start drinking it while I cook] 8 oz of 80/20 ground beef 4 large brown scrambled whole eggs 4 pieces of thick cut bacon 1 cup of cottage cheese 2 cans of Chicken of the Sea sardines 1 cup Sauerkraut 1 cup Kefir Ground beef is being dipped in Primal Kitchen Avocado Oil Mayo as I eat it. I do not expect to be hungry again until tomorrow afternoon. I am currently on a 20/4 fasting schedule, planning to eat each day between 3 and 4 pm.

There was a post earlier saying “conservatives” are wrong about aesthetics and that the solution to modern ugliness is not to copy-paste Greek statues or Renaissance oil paintings. First, I don’t see myself as a conservative for looking into the works of the Greeks, the Renaissance and even the ancient Chinese. I think we’re naturally distancing ourselves from them because we have no clear understanding of how things really were back then, aside from the sources that have survived. The way I look at it is as a kind of relentless scrutiny and continuous questioning of the mindset they had to create models, standards, like the workshop, that just work. It’s the mindset and the heart that guide the human hand. So yes, colors and aesthetics are important, of course, but the so-called “futurism” isn’t the solution in my view, and neither is looking at the past with a sour sense of regret or like they're aliens. Instead, look at it and try to understand how, why, and what, and from the answers you uncover, draw inspiration. Also realizing we don't have a full picture anyway but we're close. I remember hearing criticism about the vivid colors of the Chinese-American performance by Shen Yun with people saying the colors are “Disney-like.” Maybe the issue lies in how we approach color, which is more shallow than we realize. Dark colors keep you in the shadows. They keep the ugly things safe. I say this as someone who wears them a lot in NYC because it’s the unofficial uniform here. Color, especially when you paint you realize it requires a certain courage. You need to know what you’re doing, to understand it and how to harmonize it. Once colors are in harmony, their effect can be powerful enough to heal people. Seeing color at a surface level is the issue. It goes deeper than that. The Japanese understood this from the Chinese, who associated colors with elements, and everything was holistic. I believe the Ancients in the West understood this as well.
