@Steve_Sailer @benryanwriter @FondOfBeetles @DrMJoyner Yes, that true, the pacers in his race were doing shifts, and were too many for any one athlete. Also the course wasn’t eligible as it was a shorter one that they did plenty of laps on.
English

@JaClMo @benryanwriter @FondOfBeetles @DrMJoyner You can't have a pacesetter enter the middle of the marathon and set the pace, as Kipoge (IIRC) did in 2019 in running the marathon distance under 2:00.
English

Evan suggests the athletic advantages of testosterone are overstated and that, in fact, social conditioning explains a lot more of the athletic-ability gap between the sexes than people acknowledge.
Experts in sports physiology such as @FondOfBeetles and @DrMJoyner disagree.

English

@Steve_Sailer @benryanwriter @FondOfBeetles @DrMJoyner That men *can’t* be pacers, is what i should have said.
English

@Steve_Sailer @benryanwriter @FondOfBeetles @DrMJoyner And obviously the women’s marathon record is from a mixed race so not sure what that guy is on about. It’s true that men can be pacers at like Diamond league events, but that is because men aren’t allowed to enter the womens races.

@klusb14 @runliftrunlift I don’t even measure HR or distance (unless it’s specific workouts), just go by feel on the day. That said, I’m not exactly a great runner, I do it because I like it and enjoy the feeling, but if you have specific targets I guess being very strict might be better.
English

@klusb14 @runliftrunlift But a hill or two during an easy run can’t be detrimental, surely? I get it if you’re fatigued after a race like you were, but on here, everyone seem to be so strict about their HR and paces. Easy days should feel easy, but does it really matter if the HR goes up for a minute?
English

Walking hills is a game changer. I started doing it last summer. The only time I don’t walk hills is during a structured workout.
There’s a slight cringe feeling that your pace is getting “ruined” when you walk, but once you get over that, you realize how effective it is.
Keith@klusb14
@runliftrunlift With you encouragement, I walked up two big hills on my long run this weekend. It was the day after a 10k and I was very fatigued. Nothing to be gained by pushing to go up those hills.
English

@DschlopesIsBack They can’t be pros, though? Looks like they’re never been in a fight.

@Lassila75 Den vänstra ser finare ut, men skulle föredra att ta mat från din. Särskilt om man inte råkar vara först, känns som garnityret bara är i vägen.

@ScottAtlas_IT What is the definition of lockdown? Because gatherings of over 4 or 8 (can’t remember now) were banned, and of course there was a massive campaign to ensure social distancing, no visits at elder care homes, people worked from home, etc, etc. Schools remained open though.

Atlas: “The country that was vilified for not locking down during the pandemic had the best result in the end, and that was Sweden.”

@PavelDAtanasov @CharlesD353 Just curious, why did you target 3:11 specifically? Is that a certain pace/mile you wanted to make? Could probably take a minute to figure that out, but I think in kms rather than miles.
English

@CharlesD353 I once chased 3:10:59 and blew up on mile 10, and again around mile 24. Finished in just under 3:20. That new, lower goal kept me going after <3:11 turned out too ambitious.
English

The lesson here is the opposite I expect.
The people who's limit is 4:03 are showing up here at 4:10 having blown up from going too fast chasing sub-4.
Nobody who couldn't run a 4 hour marathon is running one on a deadline, but lots of folks who could run 3:52 are pacing themselves for 3:59 instead.
I've been the guy who blew up and lost 15-25 mins chasing 4 multiple times, and later chasing 3:30.

Marathon finishing time distribution proves one of my biggest leadership lessons: Deadlines work! … even if they are somewhat arbitrary

@anodunos @johanwicklen Dessutom kan väl en enskild person inte *bli* exogam? Hennes förhållande/giftermål är kanske det, men kan man verkligen säga ”hon blev exogam”? Låter helt fel.
Svenska

@johanwicklen Vad i helvete. Och varför måste vi hitta på nya ord för varenda mänsklig tanke, känsla och böjelse?

@Mumsfilibabba_ @wotancore I love them when we have plenty of snow and it’s cold out, but unfortunately I live in Stockholm and here it’s mostly rain, ”slask” (like slush, half-melted snow) and cloudy. This was a pretty good winter overall but December was terrible. No sun at all.
English

@wotancore I love Scandinavian winters. I love the dark and the rain and the snow

@anon_opin Fantastic album. Nobody claims he was a better songwriter than them but he was certainly a great songwriter. A load of those songs are as good as anything the other three wrote.
