@dropthemNikes @heynavtoor Personally tested my own experiments using a pi 5 (16gb), small versions of gemma, kiwix for RAG, and a Meshtastic radio for long-distance com. It works as a proof of concept, but I wouldn’t deploy it on a Pi. Pushes it to its limit and halts, requiring physical intervention

🚨Someone just open sourced a computer that works when the entire internet goes down. It's called Project N.O.M.A.D. A self-contained offline survival server with AI, Wikipedia, maps, medical references, and full education courses. No internet. No cloud. No subscription. It just works. Here's what's packed inside: → A local AI assistant powered by Ollama (works fully offline) → All of Wikipedia, downloadable and searchable → Offline maps of any region you choose → Medical references and survival guides → Full Khan Academy courses with progress tracking → Encryption and data analysis tools via CyberChef → Document upload with semantic search (local RAG) Here's the wildest part: A solar panel, a battery, a mini PC, and a WiFi access point. That's it. That's your entire off-grid knowledge station. 15 to 65 watts of power. Works from a cabin, an RV, a sailboat, or a bunker. Companies sell "prepper drives" with static PDFs for $185. This gives you a full AI brain, an entire encyclopedia, and real courses for free. One command to install. 100% Open Source. Apache 2.0 License.

@dtbnet @heynavtoor If that’s the case, you clearly were t interested from the start. Turns out LLMs can actually be decent at some tasks, especially when combined with RAG and decent tools

@onepea_pea @heynavtoor Doesn’t need wifi, but if running headless, having a local network actually lets you use this. No internet required, but you can access from your phone, laptop, etc.

A placebo-controlled trial found that a SINGLE 20g dose of creatine improves cognitive performance by 24.5% within 3.5 hours. Creatine rapidly enhanced brain bioenergetics and increased cognitive processing speed during sleep deprivation, with effects lasting up to 9 hours.

@1skps @somewheresy True, but to be fair that NFT post was primarily about showcasing the style transfer capabilities of locally-run AI image generation models at the time. I have other content under my media tab covering some of the Meshtastic radios Ive built for this system, but dont mention LLMs

@K_reedHimself @manly_mentor And opening 6 credit cards without touching them positively affects 4/5 of those factors. As soon as someone turns 18, they should open as many credit accounts as possible and continually request credit increases, without touching most accounts.

Not true. 5 things effect your credit. 1. Age of credit 2. Number of accounts 3. Amount of accessible debt 4. On time payments 5. Credit utilization (under 30%) Also, you can’t just open up an LLC and apply for a loan. Banks require at minimum 2 years of business revenue. The most you can do day one of opening a business is getting a business credit card. Hope this helps.

@soupisgood @somewheresy The mini pulls ≈30w at load and idles around 1-5w, so you can likely run a mini close to 24/7 as long as you aren’t at full load all the time and get at least some sunlight. At times the inverter will probably waste more power than the mini itself.

@Steveperezmunoz @AlexFinn @fmdz387 Your Mac is fine, but I’d have a separate device for it. No, you don’t need to buy a Mac Mini, especially if you have a newer Ras Pi or equivalent, but the base M4 Mac Mini is great bang for your buck, especially with education pricing. Plus it can run smaller LLMs locally.

Clawd disaster incoming if this trend of hosting ClawdBot on VPS instances keeps up, along with people not reading the docs and opening ports with zero auth... I'm scared we're gonna have a massive credentials breach soon and it can be huge This is just a basic scan of instances hosting clawdbot with open gateway ports and a lot of them have 0 auth

@DaveShapi @iruletheworldmo The Kindle app had this feature but recently discontinued it. I’ve been using Stage Reader since, which also supports AI voice narration and other useful features for faster reading and maintaining focus.

@akramcodez Anyone serious about disaster relief or secure coms without “the man” listening, isn’t building a Bluetooth network. They’re buying cheap LoRaWAN hardware. Look at Benn Jordan’s recent video on “gifts for anarchists.” Victims of hurricane Helene quickly put up Meshtastic nodes.

@akramcodez The upside of Bitchat is that you don’t need additional hardware to communicate, but how far can you reach with a Bluetooth mesh? A few hundred feet? A small solar Meshtastic node can reach 200km+ with 1mo of battery without solar. This thing has been running since it was set up.

Just came to know that Twitter co-founder & former CEO Jack Dorsey created BitChat - a decentralized messaging app designed to work without internet, Wi-Fi, or cellular networks. Instead of relying on central servers, BitChat uses Bluetooth mesh networking, where nearby devices securely relay encrypted messages from one phone to another until they reach the recipient. There are no accounts, no phone numbers, and no centralized data storage, making it a privacy-first and censorship-resistant platform built around true peer-to-peer communication. Personally the concept feels really strong it has the potential to become the future of communication.

iOS won’t let you operate your phone one handed, even if it has a 6 inch display, because of inconsistent back gestures. You can easily use a 6.7 inch Android phone one handed, but not a 6.3 inch iPhone.

@sam_nightfury @mrtechsense As someone who daily-drives an iPhone, iOS is extremely inconsistent w/ gestures. “Back” could be a swipe in from the left edge, a tap in the far left corner, a tap in the far right corner, a swipe down, or a tap on a background element. Android is ALWAYS a swipe from either edge

@mrtechsense Who told you? I always use my iPhone with one hand. In fact back gestures were first created by iPhone. They were the first to eliminate the physical back button with iPhone X. All the gestures were copied to android few years later.

There is a movement I found on Instagram where people delivery choose to live in 90s, refusing all technology after 2000. Like an intermediate form of the Amish.
