@Jordan01Bot @heynavtoor Thank you. This is important information. I'm surprised the 16gb Rpi 5 couldn't handle it. I wonder if some optimizations could be made on the software side. I did see the project on github and the recommended specs were actually pretty beefy.

@tempstat @heynavtoor Personally tested my own experiments using a pi 5 (16gb), small versions of gemma, kiwix for RAG, and a Meshtastic radio for long-distance com. It works as a proof of concept, but I wouldn’t deploy it on a Pi. Pushes it to its limit and halts, requiring physical intervention

🚨Someone just open sourced a computer that works when the entire internet goes down. It's called Project N.O.M.A.D. A self-contained offline survival server with AI, Wikipedia, maps, medical references, and full education courses. No internet. No cloud. No subscription. It just works. Here's what's packed inside: → A local AI assistant powered by Ollama (works fully offline) → All of Wikipedia, downloadable and searchable → Offline maps of any region you choose → Medical references and survival guides → Full Khan Academy courses with progress tracking → Encryption and data analysis tools via CyberChef → Document upload with semantic search (local RAG) Here's the wildest part: A solar panel, a battery, a mini PC, and a WiFi access point. That's it. That's your entire off-grid knowledge station. 15 to 65 watts of power. Works from a cabin, an RV, a sailboat, or a bunker. Companies sell "prepper drives" with static PDFs for $185. This gives you a full AI brain, an entire encyclopedia, and real courses for free. One command to install. 100% Open Source. Apache 2.0 License.

This may not be popular, but I'm going to say it anyway: I'd much rather work a $120,000/year job I don't like than a $60,000/year job that I love.

i used to roll my eyes whenever senior devs said "just use the standard library." i was wrong. they were right. so much third-party stuff is genuinely unnecessary.

Therefore, bitcoin it’s all hype. It’s not exceptional and not more efficient than banks. Yeah, transactions are more secure, but they need backing by the internet provider and the state ultimately. If cryptos were an actual tech revolution, they would have been adopted everywhere already.

@Rothmus Almost as if you guys are deliberately ignoring the fact that you bully trans people till they commit suicide (and beyond that aswell) "Hmm. We're harassing this group of people, making their lives hell, and telling them to commit suicide, and they actually do it?What a mystery"

@JoelHodlman Damn, tough one. He's got the step stool and the seat so he doesn't fall in? Honestly the nanny helped a lot with my kids. I wish I could tell you there's some secret step but if there was, I was away at work when it was used.
