During 2013 floods in Uttarakhand, stranded pilgrims were raped & murdered by locals. Gold & valuables were looted from dead bodies. We remember horrible stories told by stranded Sikh pilgrims about how locals exploited pilgrims & tourists. 100s of ₹ were charged for water bottles & phone calls. Women were raped in exchange for milk for kids. Pilgrims had to arrange vehicles from Panjab to come back because locals were charging tens of 1000s of ₹ for a few Kms of travel. Now compare this when floods came in Panjab and how locals jumped in to help each other and food & help was distributed without any discrimination. Not just Nihangs but every tourist and pilgrim should carry a weapon for safety from these greedy and untrustworthy locals. Check media reports in thread how these greedy locals cut fingers from dead bodies to steal gold rings.
