🚨 Guess which MP gets paid far more than any other by @X for their tweets. The Seven Nolan Principles set the ethical bar for all UK public office-holders, including MPs like Rupert Lowe. They require selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty, and leadership in service of the public interest, rather than personal agendas, division, or external incentives. Lowe’s conduct repeatedly falls short. Selflessness & Objectivity Lowe has declared tens of thousands of pounds from @X’s creator revenue programme (around £40,000–£45,000+ in reported periods, far exceeding any other MP). His high-engagement output, often inflammatory or rage-baiting, directly drives these payments. When a foreign billionaire-owned platform disproportionately boosts and monetises a sitting MP’s content, while that same overseas-based billionaire increasingly amplifies rhetoric widely criticised as white-supremacist (including endorsements of “white solidarity” narratives warning of racial “extermination”) and publicly endorses and promotes Lowe, it raises important questions about sovereignty, independence, and whose interests are truly being served. Integrity & Honesty Lowe’s rhetoric frequently dehumanises entire groups, including broad-brush attacks on British Muslims and migrants. His frequently misleading arguments often rely on cherry-picked or incomplete data from opaquely funded organisations such as the Centre for Migration Control, which has been criticised for a lack of transparency around funding and methodology. This is not honest debate; it is the manufacture of grievance. Leadership Calling a fellow MP a “low IQ gnome” whose “talents would be better suited to fishing bits of bird shit out a garden pond” is infantile and abusive. Public office demands mature, serious discourse, not adolescent insults that demean Parliament and corrode public trust. Accountability & Openness When challenged, Lowe rarely engages substantively. Scrutiny is met with deflection or abuse rather than evidence or explanation. Accountability cannot exist where criticism is dismissed with contempt. These are not minor lapses. Rupert Lowe’s behaviour erodes trust in public life and contradicts the principles designed to ensure MPs act as stewards of the public good, and certainly not as amplifiers of division for clicks, revenue, or personal crusades influenced by external billionaires. MPs are held to higher standards. Lowe’s grotesque rhetoric and conduct fall far below them. The public deserves much better.
