Every now and then, I plug a domain into one of those fancy appraisal tools just to see what it says. Sometimes it tells me my domain is worth $12,000. Other times, it says $47. Same name. Same day. Same universe. And that’s when you realize something, these valuations aren’t serious. They’re assumptions, dressed up in math. Fancy guesses based on old sales, keyword data, and trends that might already be dead by next Tuesday. Domain names don’t live in spreadsheets. They live in people’s heads. A name is worth what someone is willing to pay for it, not what a bot thinks based on five-year-old comps and Google search volumes. A domain sells because it sparks something in the buyer. A vision. A brand. Sometimes even just a gut feeling they can’t explain. No AI can model that. No algorithm knows when a founder will fall for a name and decide they absolutely have to have it, no matter the cost. So sure, check the AI value if you want. Smile when it says your name is worth six figures. Screenshot it if it makes you happy. But don’t ever confuse that number with real market value. In this business, instinct still matters. Timing still matters. Humans still matter. And that’s a good thing..

There will never be an accurate domain valuation tool. The value will forever be subjective. A name that’s worth $100 to you might be worth $25,000 to another buyer. Every domain is unique, some are fine art, most are trash. Finding the gems is the opportunity
