No refugee underfunded a hospital. No refugee closed a school. No refugee gave tax breaks to the rich. Instead of scapegoating refugees, let's tackle the real problem: an unjust economic system that concentrates wealth in the hands of the few.

“We are activists and journalists who report the truth, whether it is popular or not,” says the Canary. Then explain this 👇 Your own journalist, Maddison Wheeldon, was exposed trying to manufacture a story around a pre-set narrative. And now the Canary’s pushing the same kind of distortion over Jeremy Corbyn and Walsall Community Independents. Appearing on a stage with a community group is not a personal endorsement of every candidate in that group. Support for the creation of an independent community group does not equal blanket endorsement. Jeremy has made it clear that he does not endorse those candidates. This isn’t truthful reporting. It’s narrative construction dressed up as journalism. Here’s a smoking gun example example: ⬇️ x.com/el4jc/status/2…
Nicola Jeffery@NicolaCJeffery

FYI: @thisisyourparty, and anyone else calling @TheCanaryUK liars...this is @jeremycorbyn endorsing the Walsall independent candidates. So just stop it..., seriously!!! We are activists and journalists who report the truth, whether it is popular or not. And here is the proof!

@chelleryn99 Exactly Chelley. Canary’s Steve Topple didn’t respond to my query last year about their shift in narrative and the timing coinciding with multi millionaire Cecil Hetherington purchasing Skwawkbox and a seat on the board at Canary. ⬇️ x.com/naj562/status/…

Hi @MrTopple I’m asking this in the spirit of transparency that @TheCanaryUK has always championed, not to provoke or accuse. Over recent months I (and others) have noticed subtle editorial shifts - framing choices, missing context, and a growing emphasis on factional lines. I’m not alleging “capture,” but these changes appear to coincide with the August 2025 restructuring in which Cecil Robert Hetherington, via Ulidia Investments Ltd, acquired a significant shareholding and a board seat. Given The Canary’s proud history of demanding openness from its previous directors, it would help restore confidence if the current team could clarify: • the exact shareholding now held by Ulidia Investments Ltd; • the amount invested; • any formal or informal influence the new investor has on editorial or staffing decisions; • why the board considered it appropriate to accept a material investment from someone without a socialist or journalistic track record; • whether the original worker co-operative model and its decision-making processes remain intact; • whether there is still a written editorial charter guaranteeing independence from shareholders and directors; • who now appoints or dismisses editors and signs off commissioning budgets; • whether any editorial oversight or vetting committee has been created since the merger with Skwawkbox; • whether there have been any editorial departures or new senior hires since August 2025; and • who now holds final editorial sign-off for politically sensitive pieces. These are straightforward governance questions, not accusations. Many of us value The Canary’s role in the left independent-media ecosystem and simply want reassurance that its editorial independence remains protected. Clear, factual disclosure on these points would demonstrate the same accountability you demanded of previous directors - and would reassure readers that The Canary and Skwawkbox remain genuinely independent and rooted in the socialist principles that built their audience.

John Urquhart has blocked me so I can’t reply directly, but he’s publicly called for Jenn Forbes resignation and that deserves a response. The facts are pretty straightforward. Jeremy Corbyn attending and speaking at a Walsall Community Independents event equalled support for the creation of a community independent group. That’s not a personal endorsement of every individual candidate in that group, especially candidates who weren’t even part of it at that time. Jenn confirmed it directly. Those candidates weren’t even in the group when Jeremy was there. Your Party has been crystal clear that neither Jeremy nor the party has endorsed those specific candidates. Reframing support for a community initiative as endorsement of individuals isn’t truth - it’s a smear. The pattern is clear: construct a false claim, ignore the correction, call for resignations from people who won’t validate it, then block people so they can’t respond. That’s not argument. That’s a politically motivated attack line and it shouldn’t go unanswered.

The Israeli regime has just adopted a race-based law to allow the regime to murder Palestinian prisoners by hanging. The regime’s prisons, already notorious for systematic torture, abuse, sexual assault, beatings, and denial of food, clean water, sanitation, and medical care to Palestinian prisoners, will now officially be transformed into death camps. The new legislation adds to dozens of Israeli apartheid laws on the books, and to the regime’s long history of “legalizing” human rights violations against Palestinians.

Israeli knesset has just issued a death warrant for all of its prisoners and Shelagh Fogarty as well as Jonathan Freedland think Israel is the victim here? @LBC you seriously need to sort yourselves out and quick. The Hague awaits.
Hamza Yusuf@Hamza_a96

LBC presenter Shelagh Fogarty and Guardian columnist Jonathan Freedland discuss how tough life is for Israelis. “It’s the blitz… it’s very difficult to imagine… waking up the children to go to an underground shelter…” Words fail me.

The narrative that Starmer has stood up to Trump over British involvement in the war in Iran is completely false. We must dispel this dangerous lie. UK bases are once again being used as the staging ground for an illegal war in the Middle East.

When @cllrbegum explained this situation to me, in the council she is standing in, I could scarcely believe it. There are many socialist community groups standing around the country we can support to remove the Labour right from power.

SCOOP: Earlier this month, Redbridge council – a Labour stronghold – told Rosa Gomez it had removed her from her seat for not attending meetings. But why hadn’t she? The answer will shock even the most jaded Labour observers 🧵

Are you interested in standing for Your Party in May 2027? We are on the look-out for socialist candidates to contest the all-out Liverpool City Council elections next May. The Your Party Central Executive Committee (CEC) has confirmed it will officially endorse our Liverpool Community Independents party candidates. By next May the full transition to Your Party should be complete. The local party has three councillors on the council at the moment. We are already registered as Your Party on Liverpool City Council in line with the Local Government Act. In preparation for May 2027, we are asking for expressions of interest. We will then take advice from the CEC on the candidate selection process. You will need to be a member of Your Party and/or Liverpool Community Independents to stand. Join us here: in.yourparty.uk/users/sign_up If you are interested in standing, you can check the ward appropriate to you here by using your postcode: councillors.liverpool.gov.uk/mgFindMember.a… Once you have an idea where you would like to stand email: contact@liverpoolyourparty.org with your name and your ward preference.

Israel's parliament has passed a law today authorising the death penalty - exclusively for Palestinians. There are over 9,300 Palestinians in Israeli detention. The executions will be carried out by hanging. Does @Keir_Starmer still consider Israel an ally?
