@SparksintheDale @SandyofSuffolk @patmcfaddenmp No. It’s a legitimate work expense so not a benefit.
As long as the mileage was 100% work related.
English

@PrimroseViews @SandyofSuffolk @patmcfaddenmp Agreed, although one would assume that it must be claimed for VAT and HMRC purposes, on an individual basis?
English

The MP who has claimed the most towards petrol expenses is Labour's @patmcfaddenmp who received £8,766.
Other Labour MPs who claimed between £2,000 and £8,724 are Rachel Reeves, Jonathan Reynolds, Shabana Mahmood, John Healy and Darren Jones.
Cabinet ministers also claimed an additional £7,000 for parking and congestion charges.
So nice to see us plebs are contributing to them gadding about. While we can't afford to.
Champagne socialism anyone?🙄😡🍾
English

@suemitch2017 @Keir_Starmer @UKLabour @RachelReevesMP And Labour - knowing how badly the State runs things - are still going ahead to interfere with our private pensions.
English

NS&I kept £476m scandal secret for six months
Officials became aware of catastrophic operations failure in June last year. Shockingly The @Keir_Starmer @UKLabour Govt with its Chancellor (in name only) @RachelReevesMP waited a further 3mths to alert the public, only doing so after The Telegraph revealed the missing millions.
WOW can Labour stoop any lower by deliberately failing to disclose this.

@Vocal_GenX @Linda86359008 Cameron FS.
Although I don't think a triangulated Mayor Minister Lord would be well received across the pol spectrum; including Labour.
English

@Telegraph …and the answer is to employ British people - yes the ones sitting on their lazy arses scamming the welfare system.
We have plenty of unemployed - employ them.
English

📉 Immigration is falling quickly. Having reached almost one million in 2023, net migration has now plummeted to 204,000 in the latest annual figures.
But our public sector now faces collapse.
The Telegraph reveals how much each of our state services rely on immigrants, highlighting the severity of this crisis, and proving just how difficult it will be to fix ⬇️

@martinw4565 @BenObeseJecty What?
The Conservatives spent 14 years getting Minister Healey prepared to do an interview as Defence Minister where he could not tell us how many ships our Navy had, nor explain why the Defence Investment Plan is so delayed?
Weird.
English

@BenObeseJecty Reminder: 14 years of Conservative neglect put us in this place and Ben here thinks it's funny.
English

@SparksintheDale @SandyofSuffolk @patmcfaddenmp His staff may also claim for miles undertaken in the course of their work.
English

@SandyofSuffolk @patmcfaddenmp Let's assume he's paid at HMRC 45p for 1st 10K, and 25p for any more miles. That's 27,000 miles or so p.a. 95 return trips from Wolverhampton to Westminster. Gonna tell me he does that twice a week?
English

@_GoodyBCampbell @SandyofSuffolk @patmcfaddenmp Unusual to pay yourself if the mileage is entirely associated with your job.
MPs cannot claim for personal use mileage.
English

@SandyofSuffolk @patmcfaddenmp Damn I work and have to pay for my own food, petrol & parking!
English

@GarryJohns66980 @KevinASchofield @DPJHodges @SBarrettBar @Steven_Swinford The possibility of a Humble Adddress into this matter was raised by an MP in the House before McSweeny got rid of his phone.
English

@KevinASchofield @DPJHodges @SBarrettBar @Steven_Swinford
Now you are lying as former Labour MP Ed Balls warned (tipped off) starmer about a humble address in October. Check his podcast with posh snobby Tory George Osborne.
Labour had months to create the stolen phone story.
English

No10 source points out that, contrary to what Kevin Hollinrake says, McSweeney’s phone was stolen on October 10 last year, and the Humble Address forcing the release of all Mandelson documents wasn’t passed until February 4.
“The Tories are now just making up lies.”
Kevin Hollinrake MP@kevinhollinrake
Morgan McSweeney’s government phone “stolen” only days before he was forced to release it and its contents? Come off it. The whole thing stinks to high heaven. What are the Government trying to hide? The public aren’t fools. Publish everything. Now.
English

@johninsouthfla Good.
The market can pay her and him whatever they think a speech is worth.
English

@BBCNews Such rubbish - 16/17 year olds have always been able to find jobs and always will. Shops, cafes, restaurants, hotels etc will always need cheap flexible labour.
English

Where have weekend jobs for teenagers gone? bbc.in/3PyOmi9
English

@poglejaydee @Helen_Whately ? Reduction in face to face interviews was introduced as part of pandemic measures. Labour supported this in the immediate and future term.
The Conservatives are seeking to bring back face to face appointments and to clamp down on spurious claims.
English

"After returning from her luxury holiday in Mexico, Wieland even filed a fresh review asserting that her condition had deteriorated. She has since admitted failing to report a change in circumstances and has been ordered to repay the £23,662 she wrongly claimed between 2021 and 2024."
ask Mel Stride (October 2022 – July 2024): Held the position throughout the remainder of Rishi Sunak’s premiership until the 2024 general election .. he was benefits minister you utter walnut!

Bet she didn’t have a face-to-face assessment...

@DeepblueBoy65 Do you think the Police will also be looking into the possible crime of wasting Police time?
English

New police probe into McSweeney phone theft telegraph.co.uk/politics/2026/…
English

@Bbmorg Hardly.
Her mistimed and poorly communicated economic plan was unhelpful. The market damage was largely caused by the Bank of England’s failures, they’ve accepted that. Gilts are higher now than under Truss.
English

@stuey_beef And precisely where it was stolen. The idea this will be a vague memory is ludicrous.
The facts must come to light.
If then we see evidence of a theft we can apologise to McSweeny.
English

Scotland Yard reopening this case isn’t some routine admin.
It’s an admission that the original handling of Starmer’s chief of staff’s “stolen” government phone — wrong address, no proper statement, no tracker follow‑up, no urgency over possible Mandelson messages — was a joke.
Starmer and McSweeney must give sworn evidence to Parliament on exactly what was on that phone, who ordered it wiped, and why the story keeps changing.
Until then, every decent person should assume they’re hiding something.

@StarScriber1 @jessasstrophe I still believe her economic plan would have had a chance. Dire communications, timing and Bank of England wrecking ball.
English

@jessasstrophe Why did Truss last 45 days?
Because when she made the oversights on the mini-budget….she had the common decency to resign!
Starmer has gone leaps and bounds beyond that and is adopting the socialists ‘we refuse to be fired’ attitude.
English

calling Keir Starmer the worst PM ever when Liz Truss lasted 45 days and crashed the economy is genuinely unserious
Georgia Mae@GeorgiaMaeCole1
Who agrees that Keir Starmer is the worst PM we've ever had?
