What trucking companies are using drivers who don’t understand basic chain up policies for the freaking Coquihalla?!?

I saw a lot of semis in a wide variety accidents on the highways of BC and Alberta this week.
And one semi actively on fire, burning to a husk on the side of the Coquihalla. No one there, just a burning semi on the side of the road.

I went on a three province road trip over the past week to see family.
I have thoughts.
And none of them are good.
This driving trip on unsafe Canadian highways cost far more than a week on the beach in San Diego last year including flights, hotel, meals and entertainment.

This is an awkward and necessary conversation.
I know an able-bodied man who lived in his car in BC rather than moving back to SK where he could have afforded to rent and eventually buy a home, and had offers from rural family and friends to stay, work, help, rebuild.
He declined them all, and remained broke for many more years before getting back on his feet.
Much of the hell people are going through financially in 2026 isn’t the fault of the struggling.
But there are still choices.

I’m a 56-year-old white male Canadian who paid into the system for 40 years. This is my 1-bedroom apartment — no kitchen or washroom included. Can’t find work. Government pays me just $365/month with zero help on housing. Immigrants and refugees get free housing and live comfortably, while the system I contributed to for decades leaves me behind. I remember a day when there was no such thing as an "atmospheric river". We also didn't have "bomb cyclones" and our weather maps were not entirely made up of shades of red and orange in the summer.

We just pulled into the gas ⛽️ station in Spruce Grove after our return trip to Cold Lake Alberta pulling enclosed utility trailer .
My husband likes living on the edge & was quite confident we could make it home without stopping for gas ⛽️
I almost had a heart attack 😂

Drove across the frozen prairies and over the rocky mountains to get away from the snow for a week.
