@HannahWardEdu My daughter uses the thesaurus and dictionaries that belonged to both of her great-grandfathers. She reads her grandmother’s childhood copy of Aesops Fables. She reads my childhood books, inscribed with happy wishes from ancestors long gone. Because I saved the books.

I'm in such a reality bubble in my personal life, social circle, academic associations, and professional pursuits that when I have a post that breaks containment and I find people that DON'T believe in building generational home libraries my body goes into shock. Cortisol spike!

The framing on this issue is all wrong. This is NOT just about Gen-X-specific "nostalgia" for how Pizza Hut used to look. It's bigger. The old decor was *human*. Warm. Inviting. People like salad bars, too, not just because "nostalgia". These are things *people like*, not just specific cohorts who want specific looks that emulate their childhood. Everything today is sterile and hostile in color and form. McDonalds looks literally like a prison. Nearly every chain has built in Brutalist concrete, decorating in Millennial Mortuary Gray. People--not just Gen X--are tired of human-hostile architecture. -J

I found one of these relics of risky playgrounds of yore on Vancouver Island once. Rusted, bent, terrifying and squeaky as hell, but trust and believe my daughter and hopped on immediately and got er’ spinning. Gotta show the tiny GenAlphas what the past looked like.

My lake in NW Saskatchewan sent by my neighbor, as I'm in same weather in Calgary. All is good with this farm kid though. Nice moisture for my garden, for farmers' fields and for forests so fewer chance of large wildfires.
