Trump rejects Iran’s proposal. Of course he did, it was ridiculous. But Iran knew that. Trump is boxed into a corner where his only remaining option is making some truly unsavory concessions at the negotiating table. As someone who penned “The Art of the Deal” and prides himself on his dealmaking ability, ego continues to stand in the way of saving the global economy. Iran knows that every day that passes, they gain more leverage. Another 13M barrels is removed from the markets. The fertilizer crisis deepens. Gas prices rise in the United States. A looming global recession becomes even more certain. Iran knows they will never achieve all of these demands. But they don’t need to. They know that in order to achieve a peace deal, they will need to make small concessions, and Trump will be forced to make major ones. The only path forward for President Trump is to swallow his pride. He wants to negotiate from a position of power, but the reality tells him he lacks the leverage. Until he is willing to accept that he is the one in the weakened position, the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed. The world must now watch and wait as Trump slowly realizes he is doomed.

On the uranium stockpile: Iran is willing to dilute some of its highly enriched uranium and transfer the rest to a third country. But only with a guarantee it gets returned if the deal falls apart. On enrichment: Iran will suspend it. But not for the 20-year moratorium the U.S. proposed. On dismantling nuclear facilities: flat rejection.
