A white woman can drop racial slurs at a disabled Black child in front of witnesses, raise hundreds of thousands online from people celebrating it, and the court basically shrugs. Soft sentences like this don’t deter hate. They embolden it. They tell every racist that as long as you cry “free speech” and have the right crowd backing you, you can terrorize Black kids and face almost nothing real. Until this country starts treating racial hatred against children as the serious crime it is instead of a slap on the wrist and a go fund yourself windfall nothing changes.
