@georgeregnery @tweetzbyidil It's very credible. My guess is the billing database and actions performed were tied to her account, not a shared one. When her account was deactivated, things broke. People's accounts aren't deactivated when they take days off, so automated and scheduled processes still run.

The risk of firing someone who is knowledgable too quickly isn't because stuff is all going to go under the next day. It's that there will be little things that crop up that slowly compound over time, and no one is sure how to resolve them. But like this person who left - did she ever take a vacation, or even have a dentist appointment? Like she doesn't access the system for two hours and there's duplicate invoicing, failure of autopayments and missed invoices? Like unless the system is really horrible (and that'd almost have to be by design to be this horrible), it's unlikely anything really happens the first weekend. Unless she's the only one who knows how to load a file, but you'd think someone else would know that if she's ever taken a vacation. The problem is in two weeks, there's one missed invoice, and no one knows why. Then there's someone who's billed twice, and these problems accelerate. But suppose she had gotten sick, or in a car accident that Friday, and hadn't resigned. You're telling me that there are several severity 1 failures inside a few hours? And if she's the only one that knows how to load a file or something, that's a massive governance failure. There's going to be no way of knowing if she'd been cheating the company, sending fake invoices, etc. Now, if you had just said, no one knew how to run the program, that would have been more credible than the program was run and had three separate major problems. This just isn't a credible story under that timeline.

My coworker resigned with the required two weeks’ notice, but our manager took it personally. The very next day, he told IT to revoke her access to every system because, in his word… “She’s mentally checked out anyway.” She tried explaining that she was the only person who managed our client billing database and hadn’t finished handing it over yet. He didn’t care. “Someone else will figure it out.” Friday was her last day.

If you are trying for an invite you'll be filling your BFL. This is a luxury hobby and money will be required to do this, but isn't a barrier to those able to try which is what the poll was about. People may not be able to try due to money, that's a different conversation.

@mx_lazuli @Sabooky I started with a PNG I drew myself and then got lucky and found a few free-to-use models, one of which was a customizable that lasted me for so long. Really good cheap and free options exist and all have their own unique identity. Some folks forget that.

@qweblobeblo @emothann It's definitely a luxury, and it's not just travel. It's lodging accommodations, time off from work, food, and registration fees. If you need to make arrangements for pets or kids, that's another hurdle, especially if you live alone.

@emothann It's not luxury at all, it's very cheap relative to other hobbies. There aren't even expensive playables like other tcg's. It's the travel that's expensive (especially now), but travel is an unavoidable part of any competitive hobby or sport

I have a limited amount of days off of work because of my job, so I only went to regionals I didn't have to take PTO. True of many American players. Time is also money. I used my PTO to take care of my sick mom and get married, but shame on me I guess for not having more PTO?
