🚨🇮🇱ISRAEL ISSUES EVACUATION WARNING TO BEIRUT RESIDENTS AHEAD OF STRIKES Israeli military spokesperson Daniel Hagari announced that early evacuation warnings are being issued to residents of Beirut and other areas in Lebanon. The warnings target sites linked to Hezbollah's financial operations. Hagari urged civilians to distance themselves immediately, as the Israeli military plans to strike these locations in the coming hours and overnight. Hagari also revealed that Israel will disclose how Iran funds Hezbollah using civilian institutions as a cover. Updates on the strikes' results will follow in the coming days. Unicef spokesperson @1james_elder is recently back from Gaza. He tells me the humanitarian situation there is "everything that the international community ever feared, but worse somehow: no aid and more attacks on civilian areas."

Northern #Gaza. Two long weeks of intense Israeli Forces' airstrikes and ground operations. Hundreds of Palestinians are reported killed, among them children. More than 400,000 people continue to be trapped in the area. The health system has all but collapsed. We are not able to reach our teams due to telecommunications cuts. The UN has not been allowed to provide any assistance, including food since 30 September. The two crossing points into northern Gaza have been closed since. Jabalia camp has been hit the most, some 50,000 people were forced to flee. Basic services, including from @UNRWA, have been interrupted or forced to a halt including our @UNRWA health centre while only two water wells are operational. Such attacks, the sabotage of civilian infrastructure and the deliberate denial of critical assistance continue to be used as a tactic by the Israeli Authorities to force people to flee. Civilians are given no choice but to either leave or starve. International Humanitarian Law is clear: people cannot be displaced by force, civilians should be protected at all times + given access to basic necessities should they choose to stay. In Gaza, too many red lines have been crossed. What might constitute war crimes can still be prevented. #CeasefireNow. It is not too late to show courage & humanity.

I hope I’m wrong but if we lose in November I think the main reason why will be the number of young men of all races that are no longer Democrats. There’s been a taboo about talking about this because we understandably are hesitant to make men a main point of conversation (given we have been for thousands of years) but we have a real problem to deal with. At this point with 60 days to go there isn’t much we can do to recover it other than turning out more young woman and trying to slow the departure of young men. I think a lot of this is caused by Covid and the epidemic of male loneliness in this country and the ensuing commodification through social media of misogyny. Long-term, we have a lot of work to do to provide positive examples of what actual masculinity looks like that is not defined by putting down women or other people, but by lifting others up and being a true leader.
