This is beautiful work chief. Seeing a child with failing bones but still full of dreams reminds us why we do what we do. Thank you for taking him under your care and refusing to let his condition define his future. Whether he becomes a footballer, a doctor, or anything else, the fact that someone is fighting for his chance to dream and grow matters more than most people realize. This is medicine with heart. More power to you and the team. The boy is lucky to have you in his corner.

We met a boy in Ibadan whose bones are failing him, but we’re not letting his dreams die. We’ve taken him under our care to provide everything he needs because this boy deserves to grow up and become a footballer, a doctor, or whatever he sets his heart on.

One of the most common things we see in the ward is patients who say: “I sleep 8 hours but still wake up tired.” The biggest mistake is thinking more hours = better sleep. In reality, the quality of your sleep cycles (especially deep sleep and REM) matters far more than the total hours. A simple but powerful starting point: Stop using your phone in bed and get morning sunlight within 30 minutes of waking. These two changes alone help many people feel noticeably more refreshed. Which one of the hidden causes mentioned in the thread do you suspect might be affecting you the most?

Why You’re Always Tired Even After 8 Hours 🧵 “I sleep 8 hours but still feel exhausted” - this is a common complaints we hear from patients. Sleeping long doesn’t always mean sleeping well. If you wake up tired despite getting enough hours, here’s what might be happening 👇

If you’ve tried improving sleep hygiene but still feel constantly tired, it’s worth getting basic blood tests (thyroid function, iron studies, vitamin D, B12). Fatigue is your body’s way of signaling that something needs attention. Real growth starts when we stop accepting constant tiredness as normal. What’s one thing you’ve noticed makes your tiredness better or worse? #WardReflections

The fix isn’t always “sleep more hours.” It’s about improving the quality of your sleep cycles. Simple changes that make a big difference: - Keep a consistent sleep and wake-up time (even on weekends) - Avoid screens 1 hour before bed - Get morning sunlight within 30 minutes of waking - Light exercise during the day (not close to bedtime) - Create a cool, dark sleeping environment

Ward truth: 🧵 Most people think “I slept 8 hours, so I should feel fine.” But the quality of sleep matters far more than the quantity. Here’s what actually happens in your body and brain when you sleep — broken down into clear phases.

Poor sleep quality — not just short sleep — is one of the biggest reasons people feel tired, foggy, and low on energy during the day. If you regularly wake up exhausted despite sleeping 7–9 hours, the problem might be fragmented sleep, not enough deep sleep, or not enough REM. Bottom line from the ward: Sleep is not just rest. It’s active repair and maintenance for your body and brain. What’s one thing you’ve noticed about your sleep lately — do you wake up feeling refreshed or still tired? Reply below 👇 #WardReflections

As the night goes on, deep sleep decreases and REM sleep increases. That’s why waking up naturally at the end of a cycle (after REM) usually leaves you feeling more refreshed than being jolted awake in the middle of deep sleep.
