@PatZMiller I like this Twitter Talk on "smirk" very much. I now will forever notice when "smirk" is used incorrectly. A writerly word that irks me (and I can't quite explain why); 'padded'. Ex. She padded down the hallway... The book I'm reading now is up to 4 paddeds.

MY WRITING PET PEEVE: The misuse of the word “smirk.” It is NOT synonymous with “smile.” It means, “To smile in an irritating, smug or conceited way.” 1/5
