@AppleHelix Has anyone ever done a trial where both groups start out on placebo, and then patients who respond on placebo become excluded, and the remaining patients get randomized on drug or not. That could solve this issue and also eliminate sites that bias placebo scores.

@shyam_lab @lpachter I would also guess reporting ' # significant at p < x' eg a fixed pvalue threshold would be less pronounced since fdr /qvalue is more sensitive to small shifts in pvaluesl distributions

@lpachter Trying to explain the (most likely artifactual) peak at 44yrs. Perhaps it's because subjects >44yo were enriched for high BMI (Ext Data Fig 1a) + European ancestry (c), while subjects <44yo had missing diabetes data (d). Linear regression of confounders may not be enough here.

@raungar nice paper! was diff expression impacted at all by choice of genome build, eg of t-stats comparing pairs of tissues to each other? its not clear expression counts should be comparable across different references (as you showed), but like blood vs muscle should overlap more...

I am so excited and very proud of @rodriguez_lion for unanimous pass on his dissertation defense today. Lionel's thesis has looked at how inputs from basolateral amygdala to the lateral septum regulate BDNF-TrkB signaling in septal neurons to control social behavior.
